Higher Range

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I saw the expected range is 350 miles and up 500 with the range extender. I would be nice to have a higher base range like 400 or 450. The rivian r1s range is 410 and the lucid gravity range is estimated at 450. In order to keep up with the competition the amount of range should be matched or exceeded. 400 base range and 500 with the extender is a good start.

I'm all for geeking out on new tech and the industry may very well move to this chemistry. But I am telling you that this tech is WAY too new for Scout to use in their immediately planned products.

I still think that you are rooted in the world of software that can be patched after it is released. The physical world doesn't work that way. I am quite confident that the hardware involved in your "three platform evolutions" was all commodity hardware from established vendors. Imagine if you had walked into one of your platform design review meetings and said that instead of the Dell (or whatever established brand) servers you heard about this new thing that had existed for less than a year (but JP Morgan is prototyping it!) and it's WAY better than what we're using now. We should bet the company on it. You would have been laughed out of the room. Rule #1 for hardware is that it must not fail. It is the same in the car business. If there were any issues with this chemistry it would end Scout as a company. The risk is just way too high for a new company. Plus they would have to spend engineering time figuring out the cooling, charge curves, packaging, etc. The existing NMC and LFP cells are known quantities when it comes to all of that stuff and are the right choice for a new company.

As for VW using it, they haven't exactly set the world on fire when it comes to electrification so I put zero stock in anything they are doing. Every one of their models are extremely overpriced for what you get (power and range). Tesla, GM, and the Hyundai/Kia twins are the models for how to build EVs. You can add Toyota if you're talking about hybrids.

Finally, as I said before (and you pointedly avoided addressing), there are already a ton of large engine, small battery options out there (Here's a list: https://www.caranddriver.com/rankings/best-suvs/plug-in-hybrid). What is Scout's differentiator among that field? The current design is unique (yes, RAM is claiming the same thing but it's been delayed and cancelled a few times now) and we will see what the market rewards.
Lithium-titanate (LTO) batteries were used by Honda and Mitsubishi primarily in the early 2010s to mid-2010s for specific electric vehicle (EV) models, capitalizing on their fast-charging and long-life capabilities
