We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Bored curious question...Will there come a time, soon w/i say next 10 15 years, where there will be enough smart cars/bevs allowing them to talk to each other. Say, sense speeds move over lanes when the car is hogging the passing lane, matching speeds, etc.?

There are people working on this. They have been laying the groundwork for more than 10 years, see for example

Will there be enough vehicles with this capability in the next 10 to 15 years that you observe a difference in how you experience driving, I don't know. That is a tough question.

Has anyone ever rented an RV campsite, just for the sake of charging? Meaning no charging stations in the area. It would seem there could be some opportunities to emergency charge at some pretty remote spots.
Many times. It's one of the reasons I have far less range anxiety than people think I should. We have also used at least one for an "emergency" charge (and shower).

Level 2 charging is everywhere. And many people seem not to understand its power.

Going to be a dry, windy, dangerous few days...

Glad we have solar, home battery, and the Lightning to keep the power on. Charging to 100% just in case.

Update:

Outage Warning: For safety, we are planning to shut off power around 9:00 a.m. on 4/22/26 for [your home] due to wind-driven fire risk. Your power may be out for approximately 12-24 hours.

I never would have guessed that you, of all the members of the forum, had done this.

I remember reading about someone doing that - I think it was on this forum

Yes and I read an article they gave the term “platooning” which I thought was a great name for groups of cars communicating and headed similar distance and locations. Will be curious to see how long it ultimately takes to get there

We're in a fairly large charging desert if you only look at DCFC.

We're thinking about doing a camping/driving trip from AZ to Canada sometime this summer, if we can take the time away. We'll certainly stop at RV parks along the way instead of hotels. We'll get lower lodging costs and higher chances of waking up each morning with a full charge.

Sorry to hear about the hazard in your area. Hopefully their (IMO rather drastic) measures to reduce the fire risk work.

The Eaton fire in the LA last year that killed 19 people and destroyed nearly 10,000 structures was caused by power lines damaged by high winds and subsequent explosive fire growth accelerated by those winds.

We expect very high winds, coupled with high dry fuel load caused by a long, long drought. I’m in support of the shutdown of power lines in areas the utility cannot effectively monitor or protect. I’m working with a group who are developing preventative solutions to urban-wildland widlfires. Someday maybe we’ll have our power lines protected in various ways, but certainly not any time soon. Sometimes action like this, drastic as it may be, is the best solution from a pile of bad options.

Interesting idea. I have reserved RV campsites because that was all that was left in the area for car camping and I wanted a campsite with access to showers. I also know of businesses like gyms that you can pay a small day use fee and they understand full well you are paying to use their showers, because after a few days backpacking or in the desert with only the water you can carry with you, sometimes you just need that.

This seems sort of similar, like if there is an RV campground that offers the only electric hookups in the area, eventually they will install dedicated charging spots and provide something to entertain you while you charge like scenic views, horseshoes or shuffleboard.
We do this a few times per year. There is an amusement park in Branson, MO called Silver Dollar City. They have a campground with RV spots and cabins. We will drive there and rent a cabin. We will also reserve an RV spot for the last night. That night we plug into the 14-50 (240V/50A) plug there and the next morning the car is full and we head home.

Kids these days with your DCFC chargers.... Back in the Roadster days there was no such thing as DCFC. We used campgrounds all the time to charge (and yes we could almost always negotiate a "day rate"). Of course you always carried a folding chair and a book with you.

Finally, this can be an option for charging while boating. A ton of boat ramps have RV spots. You could launch the boat, plug in and charge while you're boating for the day, and then have a full charge to go home. There are WAY more electrical outlets in the world than there are gas stations....

Or a Way for them to realize a non smart car is coming and adjust speed move over whatevs would be good.

I'm not an expert in this, my guess is sensing another car can reliably done as long as the "smart car" is equipped with automotive radar, probably of the 77GHz kind.

My Ioniq 5 is amazing at what it can sense, for example cars coming down the street behind me when I am backing out of the driveway. I think this is done with radar, because the car warns me about the oncoming cross traffic before I see it on the rearview camera.

Now making the car do something logical like adjust speed, move over or whatevs, seems possible with the level of ADAS we hear about, but then I also hear about Tesla cars don't respect no turn on red and regularly run through lowered railroad crossing barriers.

My hope is that Scout Motors focuses on electronics that assist the driver, aren't annoying and increase safety/lower insurance premiums and don't fall victim to any "we need to be like Tesla or Rivian hype". In fact, I even thought of suggesting that for their 3rd vehicle, Scout should do a "Hot Hatch" modeled on the Scout 3 SSV that never went to production.
