  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Drive home from the dealership was similar for us. 1 pedal or some other regen setting takes some getting use to. Maybe a day before it was no longer noticeable. Now I can hit my mark without breaks 95% of the time.

Around town, love 1 pedal. Out on the freeway lvl 0.
What is lvl 0. Im driving a 2013 Wrangler with aftermarket CarPlay and backup camera and thats pretty much it. Ha!

Probably depends on the vehicle.
In our car lvl 0 basically drives like the standard ICE vehicle we’re all use to. There’s some very slight regen when you take your foot off the accelerator, but generally you coast.

As you increase, on our car there’s paddles, the regen increases and as you take you’re foot off the accelerator and the car slows down to varying degrees.

All the way up to 1 pedal driving, where if you take your foot off the accelerator, the vehicle will come to a stop. It brakes somewhat aggressively. Not like stomping on the brakes, but you can definitely feel it. Takes some time to get a feel for making it smooth. Now that I’m use to it, I love it, and get slightly annoyed in my truck when I have to actually brake.

Thanks so much everyone for explaining all of this. I appreciate it.

I would put level 0 as a manual transmission car with the clutch in or transmission out of gear - no slowing at all. Unless it detects something ahead, my Audi EV is at level 0 (pure coasting) when I let off the accelerator. It has paddles (and the brake pedal) to engage regen.

That’s a good analogy. And I’d add that 1 pedal driving is like being in first gear, but without rpm limits. You can go as fast as you want but when you take your foot off the gas it can slow down very suddenly.

I’m sure we’ve all experienced driving stick in an older car where the brakes don’t quite work, right? Or is that just me?
🙃

I have only test driven EVs. Never owned one. When I was test driving the Rivian my husband said I was making him car sick. I’m assuming it was me not having a constant steady pressure on the gas pedal. How long does it take to get used to the differences in an EV versus an ICE?
My partner took about two weeks to get used to 1pd. Before that, she drove with 1pd off. I'm visiting family who has a Chevrolet Bolt and it has 1pd turned off. I dislike it, but won't turn it on because I don't want to forget and leave 1pd on when I leave. It's been a little over a week and I've mostly rehabituated to no 1pd.

If you are having a hard time in a Rivian and you are new to Regen and 1-pedal driving, it is likely either related to the drive mode you are in (which impacts pedal sensitivity), or the Regen setting. You can reduce the amount of regen directly, or switch to a different drive mode with a lower preset and less pedal sensitivity (like snow mode). Super easy and simple.

My advice for new drivers would be to use a lower regen setting to start (if that is available in your vehicle), and adjust accordingly as you get more used to it. Once you are used to it, you will likely realize how much energy is lost to friction brakes and how inefficient ICE vehicles are compared to EV's.

Despite your best efforts, you do sometimes run out of energy, whether it's gas or electrical energy.
A friend was hauling up a bunch of stuff from their late mother's home and in their hurry and grief, they ran very low on energy. It happens.

The Lightning can provide up to 30A, 240V (7.2 kW) of power from it's rear plugs. This allowed me to give a quick charge to my friend's EV. We hadn't finished catching up (I haven't seen them in a couple of months) before the car had enough energy to make it home. They only needed about 10 miles or range.

When will syphoning electric become illegal? Like syphoning gas is. Who knew an EV would be Another EV’s jerrycan at a gas station.

I really wanted to ask if that red bag is Bauer, Husky, or the Red Army? Just wondering so I know if i meed to stay away from you lmao.

Haha!

With the Lightning, the truck has to be told to provide the power, so it's not possible to siphon from it without permission. But, boy, does that bring up pretty horrible memories.

With the EV6 getting much higher efficiency, I barely noticed the "drain" of energy.

It's a Husky bag. It carries various adapters and lives in the truck.

Thats good that it has to be told to send power. Imagine coming back to your truck in the HD parking lot to see a Rivian charging from it. Me and my friend were pulled up to by a cop because I was syphoning over gas into his tank from mine.

Okay, your safe. If it was a Milwaukee bag I would have ran far away from this topic.

I have dozens of terrible stories about siphoning gas as a kid/teen/adult. That stuff's nasty.

One of the reasons I'm happily all electric now. Plug it in, chew the fat for a few minutes, unplug and they're off.

We plugged in, started chatting, one of them took their dog for a short walk, then the other used the restroom, they came out, we debated whether they had enough to get home. I argued to give us 5 more minutes because why not. I convinced them. They made it home. I was there for about 20 minutes. If I'd been thinking, I would have used my charger instead of theirs. Theirs can run at 32, 24, 16, or 12 Amps. Mine can pull the full 30 Amps without tripping the breaker. We would have had 25% faster charge than the 24 Amps of current they were drawing.

I have to imagine sucking the electricity out of the plug to get it started is electrifying 🤣

Reminds me of the “OHIP” rule my old EE profs talked about. As long as you keep One Hand in Pocket, the voltage won’t cross your body so you’ll only get a burn, not a heart attack. One of them used to test circuits between thumb and fingers (of one hand) 🙃

Don’t try this at home. Or anywhere else.

My EE profs said the same thing. We had metal stools in the EE lab. I pointed out that the grounded anti-static pads under the metal stools mean that there was an easy path to ground for every station. One of the lab assistants disputed that was a good enough ground, sat down, touched a component on a plugged-in piece of equipment, and yelped. Next week we had wooden stools.
