Locally, Prius drivers used to be the worst all-around. They've lost their crown to Subaru drivers with Tesla drivers coming in a close runner-up position. Altima drivers now come in third, followed by old-generation Prius drivers, BMW drivers, and then new-generation Prius drivers, in that order.
Just giving you the lay of the land in case you end up passing through NC for a work or Scout event. "Know thine enemy"

Tesla drivers are BY FAR the worst drivers, and they have a vehicle that theoretically compensates for their piss poor driving.

It's possible this is a localized thing (we have a LOT of Teslas in our area and a lot of "new" adult drivers who drive them), but it's gotten to the point where I do my best to avoid being near one on the highway.

Perhaps it’s the need to park crooked in order to charge so it just becomes habit. But good to know. Looking like I’ll have enough “stuff” to justify a work/road trip down to Charlotte but still working logistics

Just saw my first R2 on the way home from work yesterday. Looked good and likely a size/price that will sell well around here.

Visually, the only issue I have is that the C-pillar and D-pillar look a little too vertical for the rest of the vehicle styling. Very similar to the R1S, but it worked on the larger vehicle. Knowing how much storage volume is probably gained back there, it's a worthy trade-off in my mind.

I saw my first R2 outside of test drives when we picked it up today. My partner recently learned she would not be able to retire early for various reasons, so as a consolation, she found a new job within the organization and bought the R2 that we had reserved during the original reveal back in March 2024. I don’t love the software, but I do love the rest of the automotive engineering. It’s just about the perfect size for adventuring in the US desert southwest. And we can tow our tent trailer with it. I do like this trade better than the Lightning-->Silverado trade.

I haven’t driven it yet. I’m not sure when I’ll even be allowed in it besides helping her figure out the software. (I joke. We’re either going camping this weekend or on a picnic for the sunset tomorrow).

Awesome news! Seriously they are such a great looking vehicle. Cant wait to hear the updates and be on the look out for the Halloween update. We get one every year and they are a lot of fun to play with. Rivian said we will get it early this year and its going to be the best one yet.

One topic I will cover soon (related to Rivian) will be the ownership experience "post-warranty" for an early reservation holder, and why Scout has a tremendous advantage being a fast-follower. I give Rivian a TON of credit for taking pole position with the launch of the first EV trucks and SUV's. I also know many things that Rivian has changed from early gen 1 to late gen 1 to gen 2, then onto R2 as they start to broaden their appeal and capture more market share. They have also been able to reduce service visits considerably based on changes between Gen 1 and Gen 2 - for example, they have reduced ECU's from 17 to 7 in the R1 series (and eliminated over a MILE of wiring in the process).

It is not an easy job for any company (especially one starting from scratch, facing a pandemic, and adjusting to supply change shortages (which they did). I give them a TON of credit for being far more responsible and accountable than other EV pure-play OEM.

But they are not perfect, and there are things that they could do to preserve their initial group of owners & drive loyalty. In some cases, they have chosen not to make certain repairs related to recurring problems that have been documented by many owners. Some of these repairs stem from previous repairs that never actually fixed the problem, but provided a band-aid measure until the warranty expires.

I think all current new Rivian owners will have great experiences - its the early generation vehicles that they should be most concerned about (and their owners). For Scout, we know that there will be some initial wrinkles to iron out. As early adopters, if we expect perfection out of the gate with every new vehicle, we probably should not be here. Service center considerations should be front and center for all new Scout owners. I know I will not take delivery of a Scout if I do not have a service center within a reasonable distance to me. I will also address why I am getting a Terra soon.

Scout is in a great position to leverage a lot of learnings from Rivian (and their original owners).
