  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

As a Touareg diesel owner and future Scout enthusiast, I wanted to share an idea for discussion.

I understand Scout's current Harvester EREV plan uses a gasoline-powered range extender, and I think EREV concept is one of the most exciting things about the Traveler. However, I wonder if Scout has considered an optional diesel-powered range extender for future models.

Some potential benefits could include:
-Improved fuel efficiency during long-distance travel
-Greater driving range between fuel stops
-Strong appeal to overland and expedition travelers
-Durability and longevity often associated with diesel engines
-Better support for towing and remote-area adventures

I understand there would also be challenges, including emissions regulations cost, packaging, and engineering complexity. This is not a criticism of current gasoline EREV design. I simple think a diesel option could be interesting for customers who prioritize long-distance travel and expedition use.

As someone who currently owns diesel and gasoline SUVs, I would be interested in hearing what other Scout offered one in the future?

Welcome and appreciate that. We often recommend the search icon that will do keyword searches to help find topics such as this that have been discussed in depth. The problem is VW connection and diesel gate. It will not ever happen and has been noted so by Jamie who is lead on the forum from SM. While there may be merit it just isn’t in the cards but if you search diesel you’ll find a lot of good reading and also some debate. Worth checking out

Other than pick-ups/trucks, I don't think there are diesel powered sedans, hatchbacks, or wagons sold in the USA in 2026? The bad thing is a lot of buyers would agree a diesel would be a good option if it wasn't too expensive to check that box. I don't think there would be a lot takers for the diesel option compared to gas?

While I'd actually like a diesel option for the same reason I used to have diesel VW's, I don't think it'd make sense nowadays, not even factoring in emissions. With modern diesel fuel often containing biodiesel, having an often-unused engine and fuel tank just sitting there is a recipe for disaster with microbial growth in the fuel system, and it is NOT easy to flush out. Likewise, with the gas Harvester, I won't be using any gasoline with ethanol in it either.

Not to mention, diesel prices are now chronically higher than gas so although you do get better mileage with diesel, I am pretty sure that the price/mile is the same or maybe even negative. I say this owning a 2007 WK CRD (diesel Grand Cherokee). The cost to fill-up is eye watering....

Just my unverified observation living in NM; but, I think I see more EV charging stations compared to corner gas stations with diesel fuel outside of 18-wheel truck stops? I have Costco/Sam's club cards and they don't sell diesel.
