Harvester towing

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I would strongly suggest the harvester model towing more than 5k. This is going to be a deal breaker for most people and cause a lot of cancelled reservations. My opinion but I would not have announced something like this without all the details
In place to make a firm stance. This has created a lot of confusion and speculation and as a result many cancelled reservations. I would like to see the Terra at least able
To tow 7500 at minimum and the traveler at 5000k minimum. It makes no sense for both the tow the same with one able
To tow nearly 3k more on the pure ev models. This is just my suggestion. Keeping the price within the mentioned amount during announcement I hope is possible to have the towing range increased ( 7500 for Terra 5000 for traveler) that’s my suggestion and opinion.

One thing for certain. The bulk of reservations were before the 5k number was thrown out. It is almost guaranteed the reservation numbers will drop for the Harvester model if that number stays true.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t think we can say anything for certain. What percentage of people who purchase a vehicle like this actually tow something?

In February of 2025 they had a presentation at the factory and the gentleman speaking stated 75,000 reservations at that time. That was about the time the Jay Leno Garage episode was where Scott made the now infamous comment that has stirred up all this controversy. The last figure Scott has stated is 130,000 reservations. That’s 55,000 more reservations since that towing comment was made.

We aren’t certain of anything yet. I will say it again, faith and patience. At some point Scout will announce a towing number and people can decide at that point if it will work for them or not. I have no skin in this game. I don’t tow and I would bet a lot of people on here don’t as well.

For certain people who made reservations with towing in mind will more than likely cancel reservations. I am almost certain a vast majority of people made reservations for Harvester not knowing the 5k number. People want trucks for truck things. That’s what people want and what a vast majority of of threads on this chat make mention of. The 7.5k number is a sweet spot. I understand what you are saying though and do not disagree. Just my opinion.

Like I said, I don’t tow. I don’t have skin in this game and I usually don’t even post on the towing threads because I don’t need it or know enough to have an educated opinion. I hope everyone gets what they want and need and I completely understand if when figures are released and it doesn’t work for someone that they would cancel their reservation. All I’m saying is that we are jumping the gun. Nothing has been announce yet and with the dust that one comment stirred up I would imagine they are doing what they can to maximize the Harvester towing capacity.

Unfortunately the “one comment” was from the one person whom is very credible.

The 5,000lb tow limit on the Traveler is fine. I’m guessing most don’t buy their SUV to tow. For the Terra that’s where the 5,000lb is a problem. Trucks have to do truck things. A tow limit of 5,000lbs is not doing truck things.

I would say that is one part of what a truck may be used for but most trucks purchased rarely tow anything beyond a few 1000 pounds. I’m not saying people don’t need it but just that most trucks don’t tow. The reason the F-150 is top selling truck is due to contractor fleets and most guys probably don’t even put 500 lbs in or behind their trucks. I due think if SM wants to be successful and take a chunk of sales from Ford with the trucks they do need to hit 7500# but I’m just saying most buyers aren’t towing over 5000#. So while it may not make a large group here happy, most buyers and large builders/contractors who buy fleet won’t ever need that tow capability.
