Off-topic stuff…

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Is this when we turn it into jokes about the BYD’s mother being so ugly or is that a bridge too far? 😃

Really, though, what focus group is saying “I wish pickup trucks were uglier. That would make me more likely to buy them. I love hideous design. There’s nothing that appeals to me more than something that looks like it would make the shittiest Transformer.”

In this “The Rest is Science" video, Dr. Hannah Fry describes some of the physics involved in F1 aerodynamics. In this segment, she talks about the constant tension between excitement for the fans and winning within the context of racing.

Link is to the beginning of that discussion, but the entire video is interesting.

When did an oil change get so expensive, a friend had something coming up and needed to get an oil change before hand and gets paid a few days later, I offered to pay today since I had a discount and get cash back, it was over $100 for just the oil change
Yearly maintenance costs have been increasing for a while now, but have seen a steep jump in the past 6 years.

The index is 1982-1984. 2025-2026 costs were about 4.5 times greater than 1982-1984 costs.

I think the last time I paid for an oil change was the beginning of last year and it was about $80 for an ICEV, two months ago, we took the Volt for an oil change and tire rotation with about 40% discount it was over $100. It wouldn’t be impossible to do it at home and save money, but driving an EV I don’t think I want to go back to oil changes at all

One of the many, many reasons I won’t even consider a hybrid, much less an all-ICE vehicle is the PITA of maintenance. It’s not even necessarily the dollar costs, which are outrageous. It’s the time to get it done. We drive 15k miles / year on each vehicle, so it would be something we had to worry about four to six times a year. If we went to the dealer, it would take an hour from my day in the morning and another hour when it’s done. No, thanks. That’s simply not worth the time, much less the money.

The oil change in our Supra is $250.
I posted a whole thing in off-topic back in October. It’s is $250 but the dealer made a mistake and offered me 3 oil changes and 2 years of road side assistance for $300. They contacted me by text with that offer and I text back I have a Supra are you sure because my oil changes are $250. They said they would check and confirmed. Well long story short, keep your text message people because I got $1150 worth of services for $300 due to their employees mistake.

Oka so apparently they are flipping it upside down on the straights and the back right side up around corners.
This is also explained a bit in that video. The F1 organizers are struggling with the tension between the advantage the lead car gets from dirty air and the excitement and money made if there’s less of an advantage for the lead car and the car behind can overtake. This adjustable wing isn’t about speed, it’s about being able to time when the car messes with the turbulent air behind them so the vehicle behind has less chance to pass.

I was waiting for your thoughts! I cannot wait to see all the new cars on track during a race.

Im reading that it has fans talking about it since its only on ferraris. And its starting controversy. This is like the Ferrari Engine Fuel Sensor from 2018

Gives new meaning to the word spoiler.
