R2 Launch Watch

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I am seeing so many posts online with people very confused as to why their delivery window is what it is based on when they made their reservation.

Does anyone know what Rivian is requiring for a deposit to place an order?

I refuse to commit to a 5 figure purchase without test driving it, probably more than once. the 30 minutes for a tech heavy vehicle feels really tight (and that seems to be the sentiment with those who have gone too)
The 30 mins is only for the drive, they have R2 floor models that you can sit in and play with for as long as you want. I strongly recommend and feel it will be a more enjoyable experience by arriving well before your test drive and sitting in and getting yourself familiar with the vehicle via the floor model before you test drive.

Good to know. Thanks for that info

Thanks for the info! I will definitely carve out some time to do that.

Just figuring out who to bring with me lol....

Wife - Passenger princess, theoretical secondary driver.
Dad - EV curious, good bonding activity

The kids don't get a say.

Well I wasn't that much earlier than you.....but.

Also, can I just add how much more excited I am for the day our Scout reservations come up.

I’m hoping Scout production is the same and they are able to make more than they project the first year.

Great that they are being optimistic, but if they don’t pass that mark there stock will come tumbling down. And from what analysts have said if they hit $9 a share, Rivian will have to close. So they better hit their targets. Hopefully they continue to grow. This week there stock has been raging

That would be great. To be realistic, it is probably a little easier for Rivian to exceed forecast production numbers at this stage with an experienced staff & already-proven processes in place that they could leverage for their 2nd BEV product launch. Notably, the R2 is also a much more simple & less complex variant than R1 - that was a very intentional build objective. It will greatly help with production & costs, but also with faster and more efficient service as they continue to scale, I imagine.

It will be interesting to see if Scout can fast track production & leverage VW's experience in spinning up factories and launching new models. There are parallels there for sure, but Scout is also adding a lot more complexity, parts, SW and production time with Harvester in the mix too. Of course the production forecasts will be different for Scout and for Rivian. I think for Scout, the big win will come if they can simply stay around the forecast numbers for the first year, then build on that success, THEN launch their own second variant to drive even more mass-market appeal.
