From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.
Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.
How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. Any good junk yards near you? Might be able to find a used trans to get you through...
I’ve never been one to care about depreciation or values from the industry, until I started waiting for scout since my car is “temporary” it started this year work $19k and is now worth $15k (according to carfax) then on the other side of things we have a ford pickup with 300k miles on it and worth $4k (kbb) that needs $2-3k in work done, but for some reason we seem to be keeping it
You have to remember that an auto is not an appreciating asset (with few exceptions and very long after production). It’s an asset that depreciates with use, no getting around that. That’s how I approach buying a car. Will it serve me for the anticipated time of use? That’s going to be an expense out of my pocket, I accept that.
I think I talked about it elsewhere... I (pretty much) never look at resale value until I'm going to sell the vehicle and every penny of that sale is a bonus to me. If the vehicle can't provide me with good enough value while I own it, it's not worth owning.
As someone that doesn’t really like to swap vehicles until they’re just too far gone I’ve never had a reason to think about, when I got the bolt it was either I have it for a year or until it’s paid off, some things happened and now I’m patiently waiting (mostly) for scout.
However as of today I still owe $20k on it, and making strides, but a 24Blazer EV RS turned up for a good price I’m really considering it, I could do with a little more space, and better charging rate at DCFCs the issue is in my current value, if I trade the bolt in only getting $15k

Yeah being upside down trading in a vehicle is a problem. That stinks.
Overall it is what is, I knew I overpaid when I got the bolt, but I had an abismal credit score at the time and the car was a necessity...I can definitely live without the blazer, but I kinda want it. So at the least I'm going to check it out with a through inspection as it was a fleet vehicle, and there's always a chance I won't like it.. right?

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at things) They won't. It's a no-haggle place.

I’m honestly not sure. I might get lucky to find one. The other thing I’m thinking is, the “what-if” scenario. So I put the money into it, and then the engine decides to take a crap. Now I’m 7k+ into what could have gone towards a new/newer truck.
That’s where my head is at with that. Not necessarily the resale value specifically, but more that I’m not sure if I’d rather spend it on hoping this truck lasts longer, or just getting something newer. But I also don’t really want to spend money on something newer when I have my eyes set on this Terra, which hopefully will be within the next 2 years,
Resale-wise I know I’m shot, but I also don’t owe anything. I’ve had the truck for 10-1/2 years. It’s been paid off a long time.
No doubt, and my truck at least has earned me far more money than it even cost to buy. It’s just a matter of trying to prioritize what makes more sense. Repair or replace. Hard to want to replace with a (ideally) 2 year ish interim.
Was it specifically for trucks/SUV or just the nature of trucks/SUvs being overpriced?
It was all vehicles. Trucks And SUVs just happen to be the highest. Here's the whole list and a link to the article.

Maybe a low cost lease vehicle? It’s getting close to the time of year when they want to get cars off the lot…
