Drive Mode Selector (sport, normal, eco) on the steering wheel

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

My Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a Drive Mode button that allows me to chose between Eco, Normal, and Sport mode very quickly. It essentially changes the throttle response, and sport mode also puts the Ioniq 5 in full time AWD. In Sport the accelerator is much more responsive and in Eco the acceleration feels more comparable to an ICE car (slower acceleration). Being that the all electric version of these Scouts is expected to have a sub 3.5 second 0-60, the ability to change the throttle response is a must - especially if you are traveling with passengers. I like being able to change modes quickly, especially when merging on the highway, I’ll go into sport mode to match the speed of highway traffic instantly. I’m sure other EVs have a similar feature, but I’ve found the Ioniq 5s to be very convenient and fun to press. It makes me feel like an F1 driver. It would be awesome if the Traveler had a similar configuration. I doubt the people that prefer the Terra would advocate for a drive mode selector but curious to hear the community’s thoughts.

Fellow Ioniq 5 owner here and I agree, Hyundai got the drive modes very right! I've been using Snow mode a lot (long-press the 'Drive Mode' button). Snow mode forces AWD to be always on and limits regen to level 1 only to reduce the chance of slipping. I imagine Scouts will have similar remapping of the throttle response for different drive modes plus all the 4x4 lockers and all that. Hopefully it's allows for some decent user customizability for different road and trail conditions. It would be nice for example, to have an eco-mode where the front motor is completely disengaged from the drivetrain for better efficiency on the highway just like how the Ioniq 5 does it.

It is imperative that they conduct a comprehensive focus group involving individuals with diverse driving requirements. Additionally, it would be beneficial to solicit input from members of this community. One positive aspect is that if they discover a deficiency in drive modes upon launch, they have the flexibility to introduce additional modes, as exemplified by Rivian’s post-launch enhancements.

I don't think they need a focus group. They've partnered with Rivian. Rivian knows how to do EVs well already and it wouldn't be hard for Scout to get an overview of EV industry best-practices from other companies like Hyundai/Kia and just copy the good stuff. Drive modes aren't a new idea and EV's with different drive modes have been around for a decade and a half now. No need to reinvent things or ask a focus group their uninformed opinions.

As Henry Ford is attributed to having once said, "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses".

But yes, drive modes can be tweaked over the air so even is Scout somehow gets something wrong they'll be able to easily correct it.

That and looking at competitors like Bronco and Defender would offer understanding as well. Just read the Bronco6G forum ?
