What feature(s) do you hope that Scout does NOT include?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Honestly, after having an EV truck with no start/stop button, I don't know what purpose it would serve (other than to start the Harvester generator while parked perhaps?). Would love to understand what this start/stop button is supposed to do.

Perhaps the pure BEV will not have a start/stop button? That would make more sense and would also be my personal preference, as there is simply nothing to start or stop once you unlock or awaken the BEV and get in... You can literally just shift to "D" then drive off.

In my EV:
  • Pressing the power button with the break peddle turns the vehicle completely on (including navigation).
  • Pressing the power button without the break peddle turns on auxiliary mode. Limited options and prevents the car from going into gear accidentally. More importantly:
    • Heat and AC still work, so you can leave kids/pets in a locked car when you have to run into the store for "just a minute".
    • You can also use this mode when at the drive-in movies (yes, my town still has one of those!). This is important because the driving lights don't come on in aux mode. Exterior lights on while watching the movie at the drive-in is discouraged.
  • Unlocking and opening the door only turns on the lights. There are several situations where I don't want the car to turn on even when getting in. For example, I don't want the car to turn on when:
    • I vacuum out the car.
    • I put the reusable bags back in the car after a shopping trip.
    • I unplug the charging cable and store it in the car.
Some of us still want a power button so we can control what the vehicle is doing. Since a lot of people plan to use the Scout for off-roading, I can imagine there are a lot of other people that will want to control the behavior as well.

As I understand it, some EVs allow the driver to customize this, so it can be set up to fully power on ("start") when the driver's door is unlocked. So they can drive the vehicle without the need to press the power button. I would much rather Scout provide that as an option for those that want it.

Right, I do understand the behavior you are describing, I suppose you could have both, but you don't really need a "start/stop button" to do any of that with a modern SW platform and with the implementation of different modes.

Using your example, you can leave humans or pets locked in the truck with PET MODE "ON". You simply press a "paw icon" and exit the vehicle. Looks like Scout will use a "dog head icon" for pet mode. The vehicle then locks itself (provided you have a key on your phone, a FOB, a key card or some other key) after you exit, or if you physically lock the vehicle, but the climate control remains ON.

A physical start/stop button is not needed to control what the vehicle is doing at all, and having an AUX mode seems a bit outdated given all of the potentially configurable modes that could be implemented by Scout.

That is why I was wondering if the start/stop button might have been just for the Harvester (as a throwback or nod to the physical connection to the gas generator itself, since a physical start/stop button might seem more logical for something like a generator).

I think the Start/Stop button will help ICE folks make the transition a lot easier, but understand why people that already have EVs feel its redundant.
I agree. Theoretically the scouts don’t need 80% of the buttons, knobs, etc… but most of us wanted them. Thinking the start button just ties into that approach. To me the button is representative of igniting the ‘fire’ and soul of the vehicle

It’s just part of the ritual for so many people.

I don’t want to tell you how many times I reached for the choke lever in my 2010 Tacoma after I sold my 1978 Ford F150.

Some habits die hard 😂

From “Flight of the Navigator” a 1986 Disney film. A 12 year old boy gets abducted by a time traveling space ship. And whenever he would give the ship a command, it would say “Compliance”. The ships voice was Pee wee Herman.
Oh, and here I was thinking you were a 40k Admech fan…
