The Garage (What did you work on today?)

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Sorry you have all of that going on... Hopefully it will work out better than anticipated... Your new cruiser sounds like it will be fun!

That was her 5th car accident in 2 years 🥴

She has also been physically aggressive with me recently, including a pretty serious incident last year that left me with some deep bruises for a few weeks.

I’m honestly relieved and just taking it one day at a time.

Keeping myself busy as a solo dad for the past few weeks and researching the new platform.

My favorite feature so far is the center console fridge. It’s legit! Toyota developed it after NGOs like UNICEF and the WHO asked them to incorporate a fridge that could transport vaccines and medicines in regions like the Sahara. It has its own EVAP core so it’s not just a box with a fan inside. It can get down into the 30-40* Fahrenheit zone if you leave it running for a while.

It has other neat stuff too radar cruise control, 7.1 surround Mark Levinson sound system, and headlights that actually turn with the steering wheel.

Feels like a tank going down the road. Much roomier inside for big families too.

Not really sure how far I want to take things yet but I am really excited about putting the 35”s on there soon.

The wheels I chose are a new offering from Icon called the Icon Alloys Hammer Pro in a 17x8.5 with +25 offset
IMG_2284.webp

They have a really cool internal beadlock system that is DOT legal but can safely go down to single digit PSIs. They use bolts that thread into the inner barrel of the wheel and seal the inside of the bead against the outer lip of the rim.

They also have replaceable outer rings so if I get curb-rock rash I can just replace the damaged section and keep them looking new.

Well, it sounds like you have a healthy perspective on things and I hope you have a great Father's Day...
Also sounds like your new truck is gonna be really cool!

So sorry to hear that.

Glad you have a project to focus on and love those wheels! I looked at something similar for my Wrangler but couldn’t do it because I have an aftermarket backup camera and there wasn’t enough room between the openings in the wheel for the camera to poke through.

View attachment 16510Made a total of 4 cedar posts to make an outdoor kitchen at our off-grid cabin.

That's awesome!
And that band saw is so cool! I sold a cherry tree (non-fruit bearing) that had died back in the 80's, and the guy who bought it brought one of those. He cut down the tree and had it sawn up in like 3 hours - amazing!

In a series of events that went something like garden-groundhogs-rifle-gun safe-closet-old carpet, it was determined our old carpet needed to be replaced before putting a larger gun safe in the closet so that we didn't need to move it again. After 20 years, the carpet was in surprisingly good shape, but I agreed that it made sense. I'm a DIY guy, and one of the few things I can't do (or haven't done) in a house is carpet, so it made sense to bust out the old hardwood stapler instead of bringing someone in. Ripped up the carpet, padding and tack strips, shop-vac'd the subfloor and got to work. Much better! I've left off quarter round for now as I'm debating on removing the old crappier shelves and building a better closet system for us in there.

I did the same in our last house... 1100 sq. ft. of maple - I only have 1 suggestion: Gel Knee Pads! I started out with the $25 pair from the big box store and soon had blisters and blood. Bought the gel ones online (I think they were Klein) with articulated thigh strap and flat stabilizer fronts and it made all the difference!

No worries there, I've installed thousands of square feet of hardwoods in houses I've built in the past. My one suggestion is to install hardwood when you're younger. It was much easier 20 years ago... :ROFLMAO:

Yesterday was a big day at the Chavannigans Garage.

IMG_2611.JPG

I took the day off and got an early start. The delivery driver called me at 9:00am and was there 15 minutes later to drop off my new wheels and tires.
IMG_2613.JPG
Ditched the 20X8 +60 factory wheels for the 17X8.5 +25 after I installed new Power Stop drilled and slotted rotors with their Extreme pads.
IMG_2615.JPG

I was really hesitant on the silver wheels, but the chrome belt-line and trim really help them tie into the factory look.
IMG_2616.JPG

After some aggressive trimming, hammering, screwing, and heat gun treatment they tuck in Low Mode without rubbing too bad. Was almost done when my Mom called and said I needed to take one of the kiddos to Urgent Care, so I will need to wrap that up this weekend but it clear lock to lock. Just a little rub on the passenger side mud flap when turning and going over a bump.
IMG_2618.JPG

In Hi Mode they look like they are just meant to be on there.

Already half a tank in with all the running around I am doing and noticed I am getting slightly higher MPG according to my uncorrected dash. Hovering around 14.1 this tank and was closer to 13.2 on the previous one. I am being pretty gentle with my acceleration and it seems to be rewarding me with those lower RPMs at higher speeds. The 35X10.50 Kenda Klevers are also more narrow than the tires that were on it when I bought it, so that is probably a factor too.

Can't wait to try them out. The Inner-Lock bolts near the outer face of the wheel actually thread into the barrel and behave like bead locks, so I can drop my tire pressure down to 5PSI offroad without losing a bead. 100% DOT Road Legal too.

Holy crap, 35's look huge on that thing. I assumed they were 37's until I read your size later on. Looks great, and I like the silver, good choice.

I'd really like a lighter 35 on my FJ. E-rated is way too much weight for a relatively light vehicle.

I love that look. That’s why I go back and forth between 35s and 33s. I really want to see a Traveler with 18s and 33s to see how it looks. I want a “big” tire.

I'm the same way. I took great pains to fit a 35" tire on my FJ while keeping the suspension as LOW as possible. Gives me ground clearance without ruining the function of the independent front suspension. Also keeps my center of gravity down in the off-camber stuff off-road, which is where an IFS sucks compared to solid axle fronts.

His picture in low mode is incredible.

I ran a set of their 33X10.50R17s on my 2004 GX470 for a while, and 275/70R18s on my 2013 GX460. Really like these tires. Quiet on the road but perform well offroad when they are aired down.

I may try to weigh the spare in the next week or two but they aren't too heavy compared to the factory spec setup.

They are also D Rated so they ride pretty smooth going down the road. Definitely recommend giving them a look.

Yeah, I looked up the weight and they're almost 10-lbs per corner lighter than my current tires. That's huge since my suspension feels like it's struggling to control these heavier tires compared to the lighter tires I used to run. Not many options for lighter 35's nowadays.
