The Garage (What did you work on today?)

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I’m certain there’s no way to get them in without increasing the lengths of some of the control arms. I considered cutting them down to fit, but the turn radius is such that I would also have to fabricate some new seats.
This sounds like the origin story for a Mach E lift kit company…

My fuel gauge is reading low after 1/2 tank. About 8 gallons unaccounted for when it’s on Empty.

Ordered a new OEM sending unit and strainer.

I forgot that they were being delivered on Friday…. And filled the tank on my way home from work.

Guess I’ll be waiting until later this week to install that lol!

Also… currently in talks with a Toyota diesel specialist shop about installing a 1KD 3.0L turbo diesel with a manual 6 speed transmission in my Lexus. It’s going to cost around $50k for everything I want to be done. Wait list is 12-18 months once I put down a deposit on the new drivetrain.

With the 18 gallon auxiliary tank they will be installing, my fuel range will be around 900 miles per fill up.

It’s always been a dream of mine to have a diesel Toyota after that crazy Top Gear episode where they try to kill a Hilux pickup.

This will save you $$

No 3rd row, or second for that matter lol

The entire reason I considered a Scout and am keeping my GX470 is the fact that Lexus ignored my calls and emails when I asked if there will be a 3rd row option on the Lexus GX550 Overtrail. I must have seating for 6 people for road trips.

This is pure spite for them snubbing me. I am willing to spend GX550 Overtrail money on my current GX470 to diesel swap it and put it on portals. It's going to turn out to be even cheaper if my current spreadsheets are correct.

Can't wait to take it to the Lexus dealership in DFW and say "My engine is making a funny noise" while the turbo is screaming in the service drive. lol

I hear you - I just love this truck for some weird reason and decided to mess with you...

I did manage to do some more suspension tuning this weekend.

I think I may need to do some fiddling with the front bump stops. The 33" tire is absolutely stuffed in there despite adding a spacer to the new set from Perry Parts.

Look at all that front droop though 😍

If I can find an RTI ramp I will report back with the figured on the new setup.

The stuffed rear wheel looks off-center in the wheel-well, is that shadows playing tricks on my eyes? You running adjustable links in the rear?

it does indeed look off center but I took the shot facing the passenger front door, so it may be some perspective as well as lighting.

Adjustable rear links and pan hard bar are next though.

Metal Cloak makes a set for Lexus GXs with rubber style bushings that wont squeak like Johnny Joints, so I will probably end up scooping up a set of those soon.

The rear sway bar was still connected in those photos btw.

Definitely go for low maintenance! I did ToyOutfitter adjustables ~15 years ago. I just grease them at each oil change and they've been silent and indestructible (unlike the stock front mounts, haha). I too keep my sway bars on since I drive aggressively on the street.
