Spare Tire, Backpack, or Bald?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

...still getting used to this forum. But, someone just posted that they believe it is written in this forum that if the range extender is used on the Traveler the spare tire under auto is not an option. Fine with me. As long as SM nails the 350+ EV range, mine will be full EV. So, the spare can go under auto. That would be fantastic!
Sadly I found several reference on the Scout "ask me anything" section which states explicitly (several times) that the only option for spare tire placement on the Traveler is on the back swing rack. Only the pickup has the option for a 33 inch tire under auto. Bummer.

This is one of those things we just have to wait and see. @Jamie@ScoutMotors did post the other day the Traveler will come either with a tire carrier or without, but there’s been no official statement that I am aware of that speaks to where the spare goes if you choose not to get the tire carrier on the Traveler. I just can’t imagine a vehicle like the Traveler not coming with a spare tire of some sort. I’m sure we will find out the answer to this and many other questions as time goes on.

My personal experience underbody spares suck. I’ve had them destroyed or eaten way over miles of driving and by the time I need it, it’s become useless or incredibly dangerous. I would rather keep the spare at home and just bring it with when going adventuring, but that’s my experience

I didn’t even think about that. With all the snow and road salt here definitely tire carrier for me.

I also never liked the little hanger under the body of a vehicle when you take the spare off, so I’m hoping that the on the Terra we can option a spare, just not on the vehicle

Definitely a spare carrier on the rear as I really don't want a vehicle without a full-size spare (getting hard to find nowadays). I've had a smaller frunk on a previous vehicle and it was good for the emergency stuff, but not useful enough for anything day-to-day. If the Scout frunk stays similarly-sized, I'm looking forward to the function. I prefer pulling through in parking spaces so that I have to pull forward to exit instead of backing up since I find it to be safer in a vehicle without the best rearward visibility. With a rear carrier, this isn't practical since someone else will pull in behind you, blocking easy access to your trunk. With the frunk though, I can pull forward, put my groceries or whatever up front and head on home. Definitely a win-win combination of full-size spare and usable frunk for my use case.

So on my Jeep WK (Grand Cherokee) it has a full size spare with the same wheel as the other tires. Every tire change I rotate that tire into the mix so it's only under there for 1 tire cycle. I'm also diligent about checking the tire pressure (The TPMS reports on it actually) and I carry a compressor. Granted I don't live in a place with real winter, salted roads, etc. I

You know you can just crank the hangar back up if empty (or put the flat tire on it to carry it to the tire shop).

Anyway, I hope that the Traveler has a spot for it either underneath or in the floor of the cargo area.
