Scout 80 Restoration Updates! - Colton Stevens

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

This is a thread to showcase progress on my Scout 80 restoration. Granted, the progress will be slow since I'm still saving up to finish it. Here are some photos from when my friends and I were taking it apart a few years ago. Enjoy the thread as I post updates!

I'd like to see something like this with an EV conversion. IMO there are classic cars that are all about the engine like a Porsche that would be ruined by EV conversion whereas the experience in a VW Bus...a vehicle that was never about the engine...would be improved. You could go both ways with a Scout I guess, however I think an EV conversion on one of these would be cool. Quite honestly Scout Motors should be the first one to do it and use their own hardware.

Joe McIntyre did an EV conversion on his Scout 800A. He has a really cool story you can check out on the Scout website. It turned out really cool. Honestly if the people at Scout Motors want to take mine and do an EV conversion on it with their hardware they are more than welcome to! I just want to get it driving around to show people how cool Scouts are! I’ll even drive it around and promote the new vehicles. @Jamie@ScoutMotors You are more than welcome to throw this idea around the office lol. 😂

A Scout 80 with a factory EV conversion is a wild idea and yet it should absolutely be a thing! Funny enough there's actually some competition in this space in the form of the ICON Bronco EV...a thing I just learned exists (and costs $450K wow). Anyway yes, Scout should do this. /threadhijack

I’ve been thinking in the back of my head that deep down, what I really want in my heart of hearts is the 1975 Scout II body/grill that my parents owned, just upgraded with a couple of things like air conditioning (ours didn’t have it), air bags (weren’t yet required), year 2025-compliant seatbelts, a modern radio that is CarPlay/Sirius XM ready, comfier/heated seats, ABS brakes, a modern paint job which is to say not prone to rust, and the electric motor. Everything else is fine. I don’t even need power windows. Hand crankin’ is just fine. It would be super-cool if they cranked out a couple of models like this. Just, uh, not at Nantucket summer resident prices, please.

There was one at the reveal and I think there is a story about it.
