R2 Launch Watch

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I configured a launch edition Catalina Cove with Coastal Cloud interior (not available until late 2026 but I am not sure my number will be up by then anyways) and it's only at $60,990 which includes the tow package and Autonomy+ (both included in launch edition)

Not bad!

Edit: I would probably also get the Front Sunshade, Cargo Cover, All Weather Mats and Portable Charger, but that all adds up to about $1000 and not a decision I'd need to make at order time I don't think.
That's the configuration I'd like to go with too, minus the accessories. Only one I think is critical is all weather mats.

I think the primary function is glare reduction, less fingerprints and easy cleaning.

I got one from T-Wraps out of the gate and it has been great (and less expensive): https://twraps.com/
OK - I could see the benefit of a glare reducer. Using the back-up cam in my Dart is difficult sometimes & trying to find the right spot/angle to create shade with my had can be a bit silly. hahaha

Okay now who is placing their order and is it just temporary until your Scout is available or are you going to delay your Scout because you bought an R2?

We're considering a lease on the R2. We're considering a used R1S. We're looking at a few other vehicles. My review thread is stalled as we manage a busy month of weekends.

The Traveler is still a compelling BEV so whatever we do now will leave open the option to buy/lease a Traveler when our reservation is called in.

Not sure still. All will depend on timing. Ioniq lease is up Dec 2027. So we have to find something new by then, or potentially extend up to 6 months if they allow. R2 is certainly high on our list. I reserved very late, so not sure if timing will work out in our favor there.

I still love the Scout, but the timing on a BEV is farther out than I’d hoped, and I honestly have become more concerned that it’s just too big of a car. We’ll see. I am also very curious about the EV Highlander. A lot of it is going to come down to timing.

Edit: how many times can I say timing in one post? 🤣

I had mentioned in another thread, I am waiting on the Lidar R2 in hopefully early 2027. I still am very very excited about the Scout but I realize it’s mostly because of the look of the vechical. Honest question do people have opinions on what aspects of Scouts Engineering is going to be superior to let’s say Rivian? Yes I understand EREV takes a lot of effort but there are other companies already doing that. Reason I am asking this question is for me the main thing Scout has over Rivian is branding and the look of the vehicle.

For me I am 100% all in on the Traveler. I know there’s all this about capability and UX, etc, but for me it’s looks first. Back in 2022 when I started my vehicle search my Google prompt was “what cars look like a Wrangler”.

That’s when I first saw that initial drawing I was hooked. Every-time my husband would ask me well what are you buying I would say I’m waiting for the Scout reveal. I had it written in my 2024 desk calendar as soon as I bought the calendar.

Yes it’s capable. Yes the UX looks amazing. More importantly it’s has a tire carrier, options for glass or cabana and can run large tires. I was done once I saw it drive out onto the platform and I saw the tire carrier on the back.

I will say, I have a custom sunshade and rear window shades for my Crosstrek and it makes a noticeable difference in the summer. I don't have the same benefit of being able to pre-cool like the Rivian/Scout will, so its come in handy big time.

It all depends on what you mean by "superior."

Some would consider a solid rear axle to be superior to independent rear suspension. Some would argue the opposite. They're both right, depending on the use case.

Some would argue that a locking diff is superior to the computerized magic Rivian uses. Others would argue the opposite. Again, it depends on the use.

The shorter wheelbase of the Rivians will have some adamant that it makes them better. Others will say that's wrong. Depending on use, they're both right.

Physical, tactile interfaces are both beloved and derided depending on the observer.

They both are (will be) fantastic feats of engineering. The question of superior is dependent on what the driver will do with the vehicle.
