R2 Launch Watch

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
My order date is sometime in June. We're taking a bunch of camping trips this summer and a long trip in August. Delivery of the R2 to us would be too late for those trips. We'll keep our reservation, though. Still min-maxing the options for keeping the Mustang until the Scout is out or trading for a used R1S or waiting for an R2. If we do end up with a Rivian, we'll keep open the option to get a Scout when that's an option.

The pricing is a little better than I would have expected. I have a reservation for an R2, but I had pretty much ruled out getting one. Seeing this pricing, and the ability to get autonomy included in the launch edition pricing, makes it tempting. I still think the Scout will be better for me, but it will likely cost more and is probably 2 years away.

If I were Scout, I would try to put something out that would keep people interested so that they don’t jump to the R2. I know they are different vehicles, but the same demographic will buy both.

The price/value of the R2, isn't bad actually, at least from the MSRP perspective.

The charging speeds are a bit on the slow side though (29min), but everything else seems pretty good.

That said, its not competing with MSRP vehicles. This is landing in a field of pretty heavy discounts. I know the Rivian will appeal to different buyers than many of the existing offerings. But just going from a pure value perspective, it doesn't just have to compete on MSRP.

Case in point:

The current deals on the Ioniq 9, are $10k off (and have been for a few months now). Which means you can get awd, 320miles of range (110kwh gross battery pack), 24min charging speeds, 3 rows of seats, heated/cooled front row, and heated second row, 5k lb towing capacity for the same or less than the launch edition (The Ioniq 9 SEL has an MSRP of $66-68k, and has a $10k discount, before dealer discounts).

This does re-confirm my worries with the Scout though. I'm assuming the launch edition will be at least $15-20k more than the base offering. Which means I'm thinking we'll see $80k pretty easily.

I'm happy to have faith/wait, and even wait for lower trims to be available. But as I wasn't a first year member (joined here the day after the reveal IIRC), I'm not expecting any "super cheap forum member" model or whatever.

Not that I'm complaining about any of this. Its just a dollars and cents/sense thing. I like the scout, we'll just have to see where it lands.

And I'm happy for Rivian too, this looks like it should be pretty good.

Agreed - we should all be happy for a US-based OEM that can endure and succeed - all revenue and profits remain here in the states and hopefully foster more domestic OEM competition. Overseas brands with subsidiaries in the US pay dividends back to their parent companies. Love to see the innovation happening right here.

Yes, and I can see those with urgency doing the same now (buying a R2 and waiting on a Scout). Are they offering leases out of the gate for R2? That might be the play for some buyers dipping toes in, or using the R2 as a bridge, but I don't know if they will offer leases straight-away?
Curious to know what your plans were? I have a R2 reservation also, and depending on how early my number gets called I was thinking of doing exactly this.

I don't have any dog in the hunt, as I'm not shopping. Just would like to see them succeed.

My R1T is approaching 60K miles and seems to have gotten better with age, if that's even possible (with SW updates). Terra BEV will be a replacement candidate for sure.

I literally just got a SW update with a whole new Launch Mode feature this week. Thats the last thing I need, but love to see it!

What was the specific upgrade. Just curious with launch mode is it torque conversion?

A higher ride option in Sport Mode, and expanded capabilities for Gen 1 Quad-Motor and Gen 1 and 2 Dual-Motor variants.

We’re also adding more flexibility to how you ride in Sport Mode: all compatible Gen 1 and 2 vehicles can now adjust the Ride Height to “Standard” when Sport Mode is active. We made this change in response to feedback from drivers who enjoy the responsiveness of Sport Mode but prefer the look and feel of a higher ride.

This update expands Sport Mode availability across our base Dual-Motor lineups. For Gen 1 owners with NMC battery configurations, this unlocks optimized power delivery and quicker acceleration. For Gen 2 owners, this brings the same high-performance calibration to the Dual Standard (LFP) configuration. Our engineering teams tailored the logic for each specific battery chemistry to ensure a sharper throttle and a stiffer, more responsive ride across both generations.

Gen 1 Quad-Motor and both generations of Dual-Motor Performance vehicles are gaining joy-inducing speed with Launch Mode,* giving more of our drivers the ability to experience this exhilarating feature. To activate it, select Sport Mode, press the flag icon, then hold the brake and the accelerator simultaneously. To launch responsibly, make sure you’re on a clear, flat surface and check vehicle surroundings beforehand.
