  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I remember it. It’s probably floating around in the reveal post or something.
That makes me feel better, or perhaps mass delusion? :ROFLMAO:

The EREV batteries are much smaller and use the cheaper LFP batteries that aren't as heat-sensitive as the NMC batteries in the BEV, but whether that's enough to offset the cost of a generator is the question. The EREV also has a lower discharge rate, so I'd assume wiring other areas can be reduced in cost possibly. The tow rating might be an issue though, and whatever is being done to increase that might eat away at the anticipated cost difference.

With the low take-rate, the federal regulation/testing costs will disproportionately affect the EVs since there will be less units sold to spread the cost out amongst.

Definitely curious how it all shakes out.

I reserved the Traveler Harvester. We just purchased our first EV, Rivian R2...Great SUV, but I just love the idea and security of extra miles, if necessary, with the onboard gas generator. The planned interior of the Scout looks more sophisticated than the Rivian. But we'll see. Overall, I've very pleased with the Rivian. I highly recommend a home wall charger for anyone thinking about purchasing an EV.

Welcome to the community! I have a question.

Can you let us know if at some point you decide to stick with an EV and change your Scout reservation to the BEV Traveler?

Thanks and welcome again!

Welcome to the community and as Rivian R1T owner welcome to the family!

Congrats on getting your R2. Is the R2 your first EV? 100% a wall charger is the way to go. I lived with a Long Range Model 3 for 3 years and just plugged into my wall outlet gaining 8 miles of charge overnight and then charging it to 100% by Monday morning I could commute daily (41 mile round trip) I could make it M-F without any additional charging.

However with my R1T getting around 1.9-2.2 of range with the same commute I absolutely NEED a wall charger lol!

I figured the EREV and BEV would be very similar in price; but, that is 100% guess-i-mation with the smaller battery pack, I.C.E. generator that only supplies DC power, and gas tank. I'm also taking a SWAG (Scientific Wild A$$ Guess) the EREV would have a slight higher re-sell value 3-5 years down the road because of being closer to a mild hybrid compared to a PHEV or BEV.

I don't know what difference it makes, but it's noted in some of the Scout patents that the generator produces AC, not DC.

With potentially higher maintenance & warranty costs incurred by Scout (based on running 2 subsystems with the EREV), I would guess there will be a higher cost burden associated with the Harvester from a servicing perspective. If I'm Scout, and I have a large audience of fence-sitters once production starts and orders are being finalized, my corporate goal goal might be to incentivize desired buyer-behaviors & steer those people toward the pure BEV trucks. With that in mind, and looking at the demands on the SC network and time it will take to reach gross profitability per vehicle (as one important metric for viability of the business), then running the numbers, I foresee the Pure BEV variants coming in at $2,275 less than the Harvester!
