Off Road Performance

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I see the need for a lot of real-world testing to build consumer confidence, create awareness, build sales & marketing assets and to enable early adoption / conversion of reservations (some without actual test drives). With a limited run of vehicles, training and hiring of personnel on the business side and no real physical locations in market, it will be a craw / walk / run approach for sure.

Rivian would be a good parallel example to draw from... They basically used the skeleton of the old Mitsubishi plant in Normal to jump start construction on the plant, but had to completely re-tool, add other buildings, and ramp to any meaningful production capacity over the first year, as noted. This is also a smart approach for Scout. So while Scout may start taking orders, we will likely see the first privately-owned (non-employee) trucks on the road in 2028 in any meaningful numbers (if I was a betting man).
I agree with what youre saying, but I will still be pretty irritated if a bunch of bloggers have them months before I do.

I never said a bunch of bloggers (to be clear). I'm guessing there will be some very important people at Scout that have them way before the first reservation holders have them - but for good reason. They need to control the release carefully and makes sure that whoever does get them first, has a super positive experience... Ironing out kinks with parts, ride quality, SW bugs, specs, etc. - super critical to success of course.

Yeah, but bloggers are the ones who get them first, test them, and write articles and post videos about them. Thats how you spread awareness and drive up adoption for newly launched products.

The first thing most consumers do these days is watch Youtube reviews on products they are considering or read articles about them.

So while you didnt directly say the word "bloggers" they are obviously a part of the conversation.

True, some like TFL or Out of Spec may get them to test them, but keep in mind that they may also have actually ordered them ahead of a bunch of people here on this site. I take all the bloggers reviews with a grain of salt, but they were not far off in their "opinions" and reviews about CT, Lightening, Rivian etc... The only one I really pay close attention to out there is Edmunds (in terms of the publications).

Can I ask, when you got your Rivian did you order it sight unseen so to speak just from pictures? Had you seen them in person? Were you one of the first ones on the block to get it or did you wait a bit?

You could really only pre-order sight unseen, which I did. I was an early delivery and low VIN. My buddy had also ordered one (but after me), and for some reason his was ready for delivery prior to mine (by a few weeks), so I ended up going to his delivery PRIOR to my own delivery. I went for his initial test ride from his house upon delivery with the Rivian crew and it was WILD. Just made me more excited for my delivery shortly thereafter. My truck was driven to my house for delivery, and they drove off in my old Silverado (which I traded-in). The experience was flawless and the best new purchase of any vehicle I have ever had!

I have been really curious how that all worked. Thanks for that.

So i have been thinking about this subject lately. I have been keeping an eye on the 2026 Chevy Silverado EV Trailboss for a while. Considering selling my 2023 Lexus GX 460 for the trailer boss until my Terra gets delivered. GX at 9mpg pulling my off-road trailer is wearing on me. Not impressed with Trailboss now that its available. 9k pounds with 10" of ground clearance on 35s....weak. My buddy reserved a 2026 Rivian Quad that rocks 14+ inches. Of course its 120k and will have air suspension to adjust height. Hopefully the Terra will have the option for air suspension to adjust height at launch. If so I hope it will get close to that 14 inches. It kind of has to in my opinion. If they can keep the cost on this upgrade to 80 k they will sell. I mean how can they let the Riv be more off road capable?

The Rivian quad reveal is tomorrow. They just keep showing that little video where it spins to the side. I don’t think it does tank turns though. Don’t need tank turns but that video of those GWagons doing tank turns on the strip in Vegas at night was so cool. Another expensive unnecessary feature that I would love to have, but clearly don’t need and wouldn’t use. Ha!

I can’t believe the Scout won’t have air suspension at launch. Especially on an off road package.

I am sure they will have it available at launch.

The more expensive builds would most likely be the first ones they produce so they can get cashflow going.

I would expect to see very few base standard models built in the first few months.

The reservation system isnt a "line" we are waiting in. They said if you change your configuration it can possibly delay delivery so they will be cranking out configurations out in batches.
