Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Saw the new Jimny pop up on FB today. Looks pretty good

Politics. Road tax for consumer vehicles is generally based on gas sales. For a long time, it was considered a relatively fair method-it indirectly dealt with weight and mileage. EV's completely side stepped gas taxes. There is tax on electricity, but that does not go to road maintenance. So far, the EV taxes are being set to at least approximate the lost gas tax revenue for road maintenance. Honestly, given the additional weight of EV's, it probably does not equal the road damage yet.

Now heavy vehicles also have mileage and weight based taxes-but those are more complex than the simple gas tax. Eventually we will probably get a big brother tax system-where vehicles report their use to the Goverment and tax is based on mileage and weight. Hell, you might even have to prepay and the vehicle will brick itself if you account is empty. Yeah, what fun that will be.

That’s basically how historic vehicles in NJ work. Luckily my classic isn’t registered as historic, along with all my car show friends. Because we found out that it was a huge ripoff of a system.

Wasnt all of this planned?

Pretty sure they are on the manufacturing side and had to be laid off to retool for the R2 and transition to NACS since they have to stop production to prepare for that. Rivian was going to start production again and rehire some of them, and add more positions if demand for R2 requires a second shift.

I purchased some Rivian shares so i could listen to the quarterly earnings call and remember this being discussed as part of their plan.

Its probably hard to justify keeping employees that cant work to VW since they have an investment roadmap with goals set by VW in order for Rivian to receive the total monies in the deal.

BTW A VW beats it in this one

They finally have Kick Turn now!

(Kind of like the Tank Turn that was previously advertised and never released on first gens.
Okay other than looking cool, when would you need to use this feature?

I think tank turns look like fun, but don’t know when I would use that either.

I could have used this before when driving down offroad trails that were blocked by fallen trees instead of backing up over a mile since there was no room to turn around.

Switchbacks on mountain roads would also be a lot easier so you arent making 3-point turns and white knuckling it as you back up to the edge in order to make the turn. Roads like Black Bear pass would be a breeze.

Doing hood rat stuff with your friends on your ex's lawn.

I’ve seen enough Bond movies to know that once the machine gun barrels pop out of the headlights -all bets are off and tank turn would be perfect for gunning down nefarious gun toting villains who conveniently form a circle all shooting at the Scout. Seems like an opportunity to boot out LandRover from the Bond series
