Engine in the Harvester - EA211 ?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Interesting read on the potential of the EA211 engine as the Range Extender in 1.2 or 1.4 liter versions and being made in Mexico.
I'm not sure why the article says the EA211 isn't used in the USA. A 1.5 turbo EA211 is used in the Taos and Jetta.

Does any one know if, in the event the motor fails, if the Scouts will still operate properly as a full electric?
Yes, it absolutely should, and just as any other Pure EV would... Without a functioning Harvester generator, the truck would likely pop-up a warning message "Harvester requires immediate service" & require external charging of course (without the generator producing power).

The opposite would not be true though - The vehicle could not run in the opposite scenario (if the Harvester were operational and the BEV drivetrain failed). Should the battery, BMS or electric motors not run, Harvester would not make any difference without a physical connection to an axle, and even then it would be power de-limited.

It should. The Engine only produces energy for the motors and battery to use and store. If they battery was topped off and the harvester went down and you have 150miles, it should allow you to drive. Because the entire drivetrain is an EV.

My understanding is that an EV mode is one of the driving modes. The vehicle runs purely electric until a very low SOC.
I wouldn't be saying a Very low SOC(also after watching a outofspec testing video I would say never come close to a very low SOC). Harvester is said to kick on before it every reaches a very low SOC. and that no one knows about yet. It could be 10%, 15%, 20%, no one knows yet.

I'm hoping we find something out closer to q1 of 2026.

I believe 6-ScoutFamily was referring to purposely placing the vehicle into EV ONLY mode. Then you could drive it to a low SOC.

Correct, if Scout offered a pure-EV mode with the harvester config, the burden would be on the driver to enable that mode, and to accept the consequences that come with enabling it. A driver would need to understand that if they drive to a low SOC, they may need to wait for the Harvester to produce enough electricity to be able to resume driving, or of course to plug in and charge. A pure-EV mode would allow a user to choose NOT to enable the gas Harvester on any given trip. This would hypothetically impact the ability for the vehicle to "gas and go" from a low SOC.

A "pure" feature like this could be useful for commuting, for example, if you knew you were going to plug in and re-charge upon arriving at work (assuming that were an option) and the driver preferred not to burn gas and run the Harvester unnecessarily, or if the Pure VS Harvester ride were quieter with less cabin noise and a driver just wanted a quieter driving experience. I'm sure there are other scenarios for this. All TBD based on implementation in production though.
