Don't let the Scout become a status symbol; why $60k misses the point of the Revival

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
You’ve all got it wrong. The trick here is asking to be paid to drive a Scout. I’ll do it for $20K annually to cover my expenses and they can pick the model and trim level. Without any visible branding, I’ll take it for nothing.
If we assume the Vehicle is $60,000 and they pay you $20,000 that's one of those 135% savings deals we have been hearing so much about. ;)

If they price the Scout too high, then Scout will quickly follow the Ford Lightning into oblivion. The market has shown that for now, most buyers are not going to pay a huge premium for an EV/Hybrid over a regular gas-powered truck.

Welcome to the community. Good thing they have said and keep saying they plan to be $20,000 less than their competitors.

Ford has announced that the F150 Lightning will be replaced with Extended Range Electric Vehicles and Hybrids.

Remember the built in search on the forums is a great place to start getting answers to your many questions. 😀

Thanks! Great forums here.

The question is can they keep that commitment when actual deliveries are two years out?
Short of a dramatic shift due to global reactions to current policies I think so. They started their pricing with their end goal for production in mind. And if SM price has to increase-likelihood is so does every other manufacturer’s products.

They have been consistent. I just saw them December 10th in Chicago and someone asked about price and they said the same thing then that they said when I saw them in June that they said on reveal. They said $20,000 less than competitors.

I have a motto around here. Faith and patience. I say it a lot. So settle in. I’m so looking forward to this journey we are all on together.

She does. We will attest to that 🤣

Welcome to the forum, MClayton.

I think there is a crucial distinction in that "$20,000 less" figure that explains the disagreement here.

When Scout says they plan to be "$20k less than competitors," they are almost certainly comparing themselves to the Rivian R1S/R1T or the Hummer EV, which sit in the $80k–$100k range. In that specific "Luxury EV" context, Cyure is right—Scout is the affordable option.

However, your point stands regarding the broader market. Most truck buyers aren't cross-shopping a Rivian; they are cross-shopping an F-150 XLT or a Silverado LT, which you can still get in the $45k–$50k range.

If Scout prices itself at $60k, they win the "EV Crowd" (undercutting Rivian), but they risk losing the "Truck Crowd" (who won't pay a $15k premium over a gas Ford).

That is exactly what happened to the Lightning—it was competitive for an EV, but too expensive for a Truck. Scout needs to be careful not to fall into that same trap.

Depends on how that Ford is equipped. You would need a pretty stripped Ford to get it down to $45k. Replacing my F250 would cost closer to $90k. If you consider the Lightning the competitor - I don't think you are finding a Lightning with 350 miles of range for $45k either.

I looked and local dealers have the Ford Lightning Flash (midlevel Lightning) selling for around $70,000 plus. They have a max range of 300 miles.

The stripper Lightnings are around $50,000 with a range of about 230 miles.

Personally, I would assign a much higher value score to a Scout Terra, than to a Ford Lightening. They are just very different trucks to me.

So, consider that not all buyers are falling into traps - they likely think about capability, use cases, and ownership requirements differently.

The trap some of you are falling into is believing that this is "Scout's only chance" and that to win, they must "capture the equivalent marketshare to one of the big 3's ICE truck marketshare" straight out of the gate. That is an incorrect way to think about their re-launch, and has never been part of Scout's narrative. There can be multiple steps and multiple trucks with different entry points. Sorry - they just aren't going to be launched all at once, which likely makes some people unhappy.
