Don't let the Scout become a status symbol; why $60k misses the point of the Revival

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

My only real experience with dealer adjustment was my first Accounting job out of college. Most of that job was spent auditing a large car dealership chain. The worse I saw was probably the first NSX sold in Houston. Dealer markup was about 100%.

Well I guess technically I had a second experience - but it was just a tad annoying. I wanted a diesel F250, and they had a Raptor sitting next to it. They made it clear I was not going to test drive the Raptor unless I put down money first. I did not even bother to ask for that test drive, I needed a truck to tow with (and honestly did not have time for a joy ride that day). But it did piss me off that after I test drove that F250, I went to a different dealer to purchase from. Pretty sure that Raptor had a decent dealer markup on it too at the time.
This drives me crazy when dealers pull that S--t. Back in 2016 I ordered a Shelby GT350 from a new dealer in my area. Four months later I got a call that my car had come in, so I made an appointment to pick it up. When I got to the dealer and walked into the showroom there was a GT350 inside that looked like the same livery I had ordered. In went and sat down with the sales person I had placed my order with and he started pulling out paper work to sign. I asked him if he would by a car sight unseen, he said no. I told him I wanted to inspect my vehicle. He said OKAY it's right there, and he pointed to the vehicle in the showroom. I walk over to the vehicle and the first thing I notice was the extra $10,000 they had tacked on to MSRP. I ask him what the 10k was, he replied because we can. I walked out of the dealer; I was pissed to say the least. For years I was driving Lincolns and had a nice dealer relationship so went to see my Lincoln salesperson and told him the story about my less than pleasing experience with that Ford dealer. It just so happed that the owner of the Lincoln dealership also owned a Ford dealership in the state, and a Shelby enthusiast. He not only found me a vehicle close to the one I originally ordered, he had it shipped to the Lincoln dealer near my house and I paid my Ford employe A-Plan price.

When you can create one of those rare trust relationships with a dealer it is huge. Our Acura dealership was that way for several of our cars. Outside of them-never had a good experience

So far luck has struck twice for us. Our current Ford dealer here in Florida where we purchased my wife's Maverick Hybrid is Fantastic!
