Cost and Ease to Repair/Maintain the Traveler and Terra

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Yeah what the hell. Jamie comes on for that but ignores all the other questions lol.

I Hope you really don’t expect Jamie to understand all of our skills when it comes to vehicles and make a list of items we should be able to repair/replace in our driveway. Most people only put gas in their vehicle and have someone do all the maintenance and, call a number when they get a flat tire. Others repair/replace everything they can figure out how to remove. I think the 80% falls within the latter.

To me the 20 percent would be electric components and powertrain. The 80% self repair in fields or driveways would be everything else. Tires, brakes, suspension, interior, body panels. All simple things that can be done in the drive way. If you have to call someone to do that stuff sadly thats a beta male move. I like my hands being covered in black grease. I do it everyday.

I fall into the latter category as well. Not everyone does.

NJ state law that you can’t pump your own gas. Gas attendant comes up to me i says sorry i have to do since my car run on a special mix of gas. And then they walk away.

Call me crazy, but I think baring drive train (due to it being an EV or EREV) most the car will be just as capable of being modified or repaired as other cars.

Repair and modifying a EV is way easier than a Gas vehicle. Especially when the vehicle is being made to be customized and repaired by the owner like Scout.

But if people want to bring their Scouts in for Service then i see no problem with going with the Dealership Franchise model. Service center are just as much of a scam.

I think I mentioned it a while back in another thread, but I am hoping that changing the oil on the harvester range extender is not an engine out job and I suggested to maybe make a sealed flap under the trunk floor that is locked or can only open from inside in the traveler and under part of the bed in the Terra that can be opened to service the top of the range extender or change the oil etc. This is just an idea and there may be better solutions but this is what I have come up with so far.

I like that idea. Its nice and simple compared to the rear subframe winch that I've heard of Being thrown around.

Yeah no, the winch sounds like a terrible idea, I came up with the idea access panel for service thinking of old vans/ trucks that have access panels to the engine from inside the cabin so doing something similar for harvester access seemed like a simple but good solution if the harvester is going where it was shown in the concepts

Honestly all i hope for is that Scout makes them easy to work on for the customers. I know its a hassle to get to the service center on time before bells and whistles go off. I also hope they make a service panel that is easy to use so repairs and regular maintenance is not hard to do for the average humans in the forum. And a Screen that if your Scout does need work lets say spark plugs and a oil change that a page will pop up with whats needed to complete it and you can hit order now and it will be shipped to your doorstep. And let’s hope we get that big beautiful 80% Field repair by owner. And if anyone has learned anything about Scout over the past 3 years, it’s that they always show up with what they say and go above and beyond.
