Cost and Ease to Repair/Maintain the Traveler and Terra

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Replacing an airbag is a lot of work. I'm just guessing here but, I don't think they would be doing that in your driveway.
lol. I was talking about stuff that would be needed to go to the service center lol. But I do think it’s probably possible, people do steering wheel swaps at home. But for side curtains it might be possible, probably a mess in the driveway though.

I’m starting to think some of you are boosting cars as a side gig. How hard are the catalytic converters to remove. Hhhmmmm???????
They don’t have security clearance lol. They go to try to get finger printed and the cops come up to them and ask for the Catalytic Converters Back at the exact moment.

I can get have them off before you know I’m there:ROFLMAO:
Just wait until they start stripping ev’s for copper while your parked on the street:ROFLMAO:
An electrician's dream, they love scraping copper. Even though it's like $4 for a pound for a pound of copper

8 years ago the company I worked for was building townhomes. Crooks came in one night and busted off the 2” copper sprinkler lines coming up from basement (8-10” lengths). Cost us $1,000’s to fix because concrete needed jack hammered on quite a few to get below the damage area and re-couple the pipes. Copper theft SUCKS!

I've always worked on my own cars, and I would say that 80% of repairs for ANY vehicle can be done in a driveway. I would guess the 80% number is more of a marketing talking point stemming from a general design philosophy.

I would assume their intention is to keep components accessible and reduce the need for lifts and specialized tools. This works for both the handy customer and Scout, as they will be somewhat dependent on a network of mobile techs.

NJ state law that you can’t pump your own gas. Gas attendant comes up to me i says sorry i have to do since my car run on a special mix of gas. And then they walk away.
Yah. NJ is weird about that and I didn't understand that while I worked there for 6 years. The first time I got gas, an attendant rushed over, yelling and waiving his arms about, then noticed my NM plate. LOL

The bigger question is the 80% driveway fixable for their trained techs OR for the basic mechanic? Would assume that for user but makes you wonder
I think I found your answer to this question.

I am completely the opposite. Someone else can do that for me. At 16 my dad wouldn’t let me get my license until I could change the oil and change a tire and then when I got my first car, 74 Camaro Z28 350 4-speed, I had to do all the work with him. I remember changing the oil and I accidentally hit the pan the oil was draining into and was laying in a puddle of oil. That was fun getting oil out of my long hair. So Scout service here I come.

I totally get that. My days of crawling under a vehicle are long past. But the nice thing about Scouts approach is that even if you don’t have a scout service center nearby, you can take it to your favorite mechanic and they can get all the info and parts that they need to fix it.

Absolutely. Scout is a vehicle for every person!
