Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

I do NOT want my Scout to drive itself.

Part of owning a hands-on vehicle would be the satisfaction of tactile power over your destiny while enjoying the ride.

If I wanted a robo-car then I could buy a future Rivian.

I am really hoping that Lidar and a more advanced driving automation package will be offered in the future, I know its probably not going to make it for launch but the heavy limitations of vision only systems in edge case scenarios (ex fog, heavy rain, glare) is a definite concern for me, potentially enough for me to look more closely at the R2

Welcome to the forum.

Nothing is confirmed yet, but Scout is using the R2 architecture so there is still a chance we could see LIDAR since they will have the same systems. There are unconfirmed rumors about LIDAR on the R2 so we will keep our eyes on its launch to see if it makes it to production then speculate from there.

Just make the cruise control function to include automatic braking and distance control if not as a standalone option.
Welcome to the community! There’s quite a bit of info in the forum. @Jamie@ScoutMotors is a great follow. He provides a lot of info from the manufacturer side. Also the search function is very helpful. If you really can’t find feel free to reach out. Usually someone knows something, even if it’s just nothing has been decided yet.

Jamie did reply to your question in a prior post. Here is the answer he gave.

I want to drive and don't want hand-free driving. Driving aids like lane assist and adaptive cruise control are great when they can be turned off.

Welcome to the community. @Jamie@ScoutMotors has stated that Level II+ is the currently planned option. He’s a great follow and keeps us updated from the manufacturer side. Welcome again.

For however many years I will be given on this Earth I will be driving myself, thank you very much!

We just got back yesterday from a 5 day 1,000 mile road trip to the Padre Island National Seashore beach in Corpus Christi.

My 2004 Lexus GX470 did a great job but with a car full of 6 people I would have loved something beyond basic cruise control. Even Adaptive Cruise and Lane Keep Assist would allow me to relax on some of the hours long stretches of highway. Our family is loud and I have pretty severe anxiety so it would be a massive quality of life improvement.

In fact it is such an intimidating task that this is the first time ever that we went on a long road trip with all of us. Usually the wife and I leave the kiddos with grandma and just the two of us go out of town. I am hoping the next family road trip rig can help make it an easier thing to commit to because we want start traveling with them more in the summer months

The best part about those kinds of features though is you ARE USUALLY NOT FORCED TO USE THEM if you dont want to. I understand people dont feel comfortable with letting the car take over, but for those that do it will be great to have more options, not less.
