Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Same, same, and same. I love my Rivian too, but I very easily chase shiny objects so after a year and half ownership I'm eyeballing other vehicles lol! I am also not ashamed to say that even as excited as I am to get my Scout the moment I hear of a second Gen or new model I will almost undoubtedly be one of the first to reserve. FOMO...got a hold on me for sure, and my poor wife is eternally hopeful that I will grow out of it. Not bloody likely 😅
I had to promise my wife that this Scout would be a *very* long-term vehicle (only way I could get her to agree to the expected price). I don't think it will be a problem since I have regretted selling my previous Scout for 20 years now...

But when they come out with a smaller/thinner 2-door Scout... (I never said it would be my *only* Scout!)

:)

I've made that same promise with my last 3 vehicles lol! Works like a charm ;)

I only "grew out of it" because manufacturers stopped producing cars that I liked better than my current ones. :ROFLMAO:

Thankfully, my wife accepted that I literally bought vehicles more often than she bought shoes before we were even married, so that helps. The only real rule now is that a vehicle can't show up without her knowing about it. That did NOT go well...

I bet it did not go well…

I see new roads updated on Google Maps, despite their satellite imagery being woefully behind...

Terra Rd! No sign of Traveler Lane though...

I guess Rivian and Scout set the playbook for this, so there is a way, and remote service is a very convenient thing (if it can be used, and if Scout has a remote service plan and program in place). I had a remote service visit at my house and it was a great experience. But I agree 100% with your sentiment.

What do you mean by pre-3/1 pricing? Do you mean Launch pricing? if so yes, I own an early build Launch Edition.
Scout does intend to have mobile service in place to fill in service center gaps. Definitely curious how their version varies from Rivian.

I've been going on about this for a bit now. For the average consumer, seeing more of a new brand on the street increases confidence in that brand. The basic logic of "if all of these other people are doing it, there must be a reason" goes a long ways towards furthering a brand. If someone looked into Rivian early on, saw the prices and discounted the brand, they're not reconsidering for years, until they start seeing a lot of R2s on the streets. I highly doubt Average Joe even knows the R2S is a different vehicle than the R1S when passing one, and I'm already seeing more R2s on the road than R1s.

There will always be some early-adopters with more money than sense, but that pool is notably smaller now than it once was. Tap that pool for the first month of production and make some profit, but be ready to have $60k models shipping out by month two. I wholeheartedly agree that they need to get Scouts on the streets, and as many as possible. Launch the new models hard and fast, get them onto every neighborhood street and the brand is much more likely to take off than trickling a few over-priced models out here and there.

I think this is different than legacy automakers where they already have an established name and consumer confidence. They've got a much quicker turnaround time from premium offering to more pedestrian versions, and even then, those often fail or sour buyers on a model. Watching Toyota launch their First Edition Land Cruiser, I noticed they sat on the lots, even without dealer markup, and were still sitting when the cheaper versions came out, only to be discounted in the end.
I think SM should determine a set amount of launch versions. Package, price and photo them. Release the post to the forum first, you build it, submit your build with a $1000 non-refundable deposit. Then they go through the order of initial reservations until all (4500?-basically 45 years since last IH scout so my arbitrary number) models are accounted for. Then start building those to spool up production, work through the full speed line process then go right to the standard build vehicles at $60K base but perhaps with limited items if they aren’t all ready. Then introduce the upper tier models after say 20,000 units are built. And make sure there is a mix of at least 25% BEV and 75% EREV to satisfy both mixes and get more of both out on the road. Then alternate the bases, mids and high packages

Huh, so doing a bit of research, as a Maryland resident, I CAN buy a Rivian online from Rivian. What I can't do is buy a pre-owned Rivian from Rivian because Maryland prohibits manufacturers that have a Direct To Consumer model from holding a used-car dealer license. This applies to Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, etc. (Looks like there is a similar law in Nevada). What I find odd is that it also says I am prohibited from buying a preowned Rivian out-of-state as well as in-state. I'm not sure how that is enforced except maybe when you go to register it in Maryland.
How can the state basically say you can’t buy a used vehicle? So what, you have a family member buy it then transfer to you as a gift? Seems like there is a legal issue with that in not providing you with a way to buy a used DTC vehicle?

Yes, no doubt, and there will likely be more mobile service to start. The nice thing about this for Scout is that there might be more service items that can be handled in the field (as opposed to at a Service Center) at least in theory, and based on their desire to provide owners with more self-service opportunities for smaller and more common service items.

We should start a Scout online counseling group for all of our spouses and loved ones that endure our non-stop Scout talk. My poor daughter wants a Scout but she’s sick of hearing me talk about them. That said-she texted last week with pics of the R3 and now she is really liking the look of that. So we could end up being a Scout/Rivian mixed family.

The earliest of us Rivian preorder holders got lucky when Rivian completely screwed up and announced pricing way too early. They honored that pricing for those preorders, up until a 3/1 (don't even remember what year now) deadline. I think it worked out to be a $20k discount on my quad-motor R1S preorder.
Yes, I had a very early reservation - they honored my initial pricing.
But Rivian didn't screw up entirely on their own, the intentions were good.
Then the world got screwed-up with a pandemic.
Rivian had no choice, but to either go underwater or try to adjust their pricing upward.
They were damned if they did and damned if they didn't, but more damned if their first play with no customers was to leave them feeling shitty.
They weighed their options, re-negged on the price adjustment, and made a lot of us early reservation holders that had been waiting for years very happy. They really had no choice but to take an initial hit for the longterm betterment of the business as a hold. Did it delay their first gross profit per vehicle sold? I'm sure it did, but it was the right thing to do.
