I think bucketing AI into one category is like bucketing pick-up trucks into one category and skipping all the trim levels - especially when it comes to specific use cases within an actual business.

My entire co. now runs on Claude Enterprise and Claude Code. We started with a pilot of Co-pilot last year (being a MS shop), tried Gemini and Chat, but we knew everyone that was using AI effectively was already on Claude, and we knew Claude was going to win. Getting on a paid version of Claude has been remarkable. We had one project that we estimated would take approximately 4 months and 8 developers to complete. We just made that happen with Claude in about 4 weeks with ONE person. Good QA & Testing is still key, but the quality of the code is quite high (according to our team) and they now do "artisanal code" for fun. We haven't fired anyone. In fact we have created new positions and re-defined products for certain AI-specific markets (like VOICE AI, as an example).

At first I was a skeptic, I don't see it going away for business anytime soon, but I am also not a developer or a SW engineer. I don't pretend to know everything, but the impact I see is real, and the way my business team leverages AI is profound.

The slop is still slop though.

We use Claude at work as well and for processes it is saving several teams hours and weeks of time. But from the design side there just isn’t AI capable yet other than just developing ideas and hoping to find new ideas and expand on them

No doubt the efficiency gains are very real. I see most of the AI complaints as human problems - but people "blame AI" a lot.

Certainly there are LLM's, algorithms, platforms, and models that are far superior to others (like anything). Regardless, someone (a human) still still needs to know how to develop and formulate a detailed request, know how and what to ask for, and then verify outputs.

For example, if you you use an inferior or inadequate platform, provide weak prompts, fail to guide, direct or give adequate reference content, connect to sources and have not provided proprietary information/data that may be needed for the task at hand, and THEN you get bad results, well, that should be expected. But we have unreasonable expectations as humans, we want instant / perfect results, we're often looking for shortcuts (ironic?) and we probably think less critically in the US now than ever before.

There's a lot wrong with AI - but humans will need to learn to adapt to it, filter out the "slop", become more discerning, and hopefully not become too cynical or overly skeptical in the process. I'm sure some people will become so tired that they completely disconnect - but for the majority, there will be a middle ground and they will live with more convenience and benefits that are derived from AI in some way, shape or form.

While I don't care for that faux gold color, Toyota really pisses me off by only offering colors on their super-expensive models. I really liked some of the bright greens and oranges they've used in the past on the TRD+ models.

And it’s not just that it’s the most expensive it’s also that it’s so limited. Like 2500 a year. That’s barely any. Our Supra is 1 of 4952 for 2022 and I was running all over trying to find one. It’s terrible.

For a "legacy Auto Maker" they seem to be the only ones putting in the real work to create actual good quality EVs, Hybrids and 48v Hybrids. They also have the most extensive line up here in the US I believe

Odd that they're only shown on cloudy days. Can't say I want another school-bus yellow vehicle again. Either way, I don't see myself buying a Toyota anymore with their push to downsized, less-reliable engines.

This right here is where I'm at. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to believe things are real when you can take just about anyone and make videos of them doing and saying anything. The more videos of them out there to grab from the easier it is. It's inevitable that it is used maliciously, especially politically, or to try to incite some type of reaction. That type of stuff is already out there regardless of AI. Now we can just make completely fake videos and images of just about anything.

I can certainly see how there could be benefits to AI helping with certain things, monitoring systems, writing codes, etc., but with every good there's an evil.

I'm probably already in the too cynical or overly skeptical camp so this reads to me like typical MIT output: Some good things and some overhyped BS, I mean AI.

Also, I don't know if I already shared it here, I probably have, I've noticed that people who do real value added work where I work tend to avoid AI. A lot of the work being replaced is stuff that was pretty low value to begin with, which is perhaps how it should be. Also, it is easiest to replace the work of people who were barely good enough to keep around in the first place.

Like I said, the cynicism is strong.
