We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. We haven't released the capacity yet. Nor is the satellite option completely sorted in terms of location of the antenna. I would think this will be a challenge to keep a clear signal regardless of where you mount it if you install a lot of overland equipment. Hopefully there will be a variety of options.

While you’re on the subject, does the satellite antenna require the roof rack? I’m tryin to keep it as short as possible, not likely to use the roof rack, but love the geek cred of a satellite antenna.

It would be interesting to see how it can mount without a rack. You may still need some cross bars or an adhesive mount to fit it on the roof.

...or maybe you could mount a telescoping pole to the panel on the tire carrier.

Yea, but I’m hoping to get by without the tire carrier too. I suppose fitting in a compact spot is too much to ask 😋
 
So I ran my annual archery tournament this weekend-146th year, my 6th year. It was hosted in Delaware about 40 minutes from the east coast beach at a sportsman’s club with virtually no internet or connectivity. We were running 20 tablets for scoring and my buddy purchased a starlink satellite system to run the event. The system worked awesome-HOWEVER it also required a gas generate for the power to do all the other work-so tons of noise and occasional gas fumes/exhaust smells which went all weekend and eventually you got used to it. Also ran 2 speakers that are rechargeable but man-all weekend (and said it outloud twice) that if I had the scout we could literally turn on the starlink in the roof rack, plug into the vehicle and we could have just enjoyed the music and the arrow flinging. So now I’m wondering how much the satellite link setup will cost because this weekend’s experience made me find myself understanding more of what that system can offer. And presuming the panel/ processor/ receiver (or whatever it’s called) is similar in size he said we could probably run nearly 200 devices. Just opened up a world of opportunities

That’s a great point as well and generally we tag team that event as well as a few others so that would work well too. Would make for great social media pics to with the Scout in the background.

Agreed.

A dongle like solution works fine for me. An L15 is fine, but we an L14-30R, or a 15-50R would be great.

And for some reason we need to do a 120v plug/dongle, please, please make it at least a 20amp, or even better, a TT-30.

Read that Tesla Cybercab will have a Starlink antenna integrated into the rear hatch body panel.

Maybe Scout could do something similar and integrate it into the hood where it won't be blocked by cargo on the roof.

I want Space EV to comment on space debris and The Kessler Syndrome (and how real or imminent it could be)... I wonder what would happen if we lost GPS connectivity randomly around the globe - seems like we would have travel, security, occupational and other "issues"!

The Kessler Syndrome
Spent rockets, satellites and other space trash have accumulated in orbit increasing the likelihood of collision with other debris. Unfortunately, collisions create more debris creating a runaway chain reaction of collisions and more debris known as the Kessler Syndrome after the man who first proposed the issue, Donald Kessler. It is also known as collisional cascading.
This cascade of collisions first came to NASAs attention in the 1970’s when derelict Delta rockets left in orbit began to explode creating shrapnel clouds. Kessler demonstrated that once the amount of debris in a particular orbit reaches critical mass, collision cascading begins even if no more objects are launched into the orbit. Once collisional cascading begins, the risk to satellites and spacecraft increases until the orbit is no longer usable.
Kessler proposed it would take 30 to 40 years for such a threshold to be reached and today, some experts thing we are already at critical mass in low-Earth orbit at about 560 to 620 miles (900 to 1,000 kilometers).

I think we'll see efforts in the next few years to remove some of the debris. They're at the point where they can launch a satellite now, have it rendezvous with another satellite or piece of junk and basically push it into the atmosphere. The problem I see is that there's no real profit in doing so, and governments probably won't pay until something catastrophic happens. They'll happily pay to weaponize satellites to disable others' satellites though, something we'll see a lot more of soon.

GPS is starting to fall out of favor now that we're seeing spoofing attacks. The satellite signals aren't secure and with the ability to forge false signals, we'll see a change to a more secure positioning system before too long, but whatever system replaces GPS will also be space-based and carry the same risks from debris.

There's a lot of complexity involved in that type of maneuver when you are going 17,000 MPH (not to mention the fact that the objects aren't stationary and are also spinning. Sounds good on paper, but with the sheer amount of debris existing (and being created), not sure how effective that would be. A lot of the danger is coming from the micro particles.

Feels like we need some sort of massive / rocket-boostered "space blanket" sweeper to "catch" multiple particles and pieces of debris, then re-direct them all "in bulk"... Then sweep again... Anyone want to invest in my new company to clean-up Outerspace? Dang. Didn't think so.

Yeah, so much stuff is launching nowadays, it'd be a losing battle. I remember reading something a year or two ago that noted a number of specific space junk items that were the most dangerous. Maybe focus on those with your fishing net.

I really like the fixed Starlink option for the Scout for traveling and camping. I would like the option with accessories to swap Starlink over to another vehicle (suction cup antenna on inside of glass maybe), pack in my luggage on vacation, use at home, work, play, etc... That would solve the roof rack items blocking the signal if you had a portable system option. You can attach anywhere inside the vehicle or set up X feet away with an extension cord at the camp sight.

We help out with youth summer USATF track and field and sometimes need internet access for race results (use smartphone tethering now). Vehicles are usually parked 1/4 - 1/2 mile away to use the fixed Scout Starlink. Would be cool to uninstall the above antenna from the Scout and use inside press box in the stadium.
