How much more would you pay for a Launch Edition Scout

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

One problem that making launch fully loaded only is it sets consumer expectations. Ford advertised a $40k truck, but then between dealers and trim - it was a $100k vehicle (ok >75k). Once the dust cleared, consumers already considered it too expensive - and it was very hard for them to get people to look at them. Tesla did the same with the Cybertruck. In the collective consciousness it is a 90k vehicle. Sure the price is not quite that currently. Tesla's one week sale of budget Cybertrucks at $60k just cemented in the 70k price for the foreseeable future. They might do a sale again later - but no reason now that they have reservations again.

Scout needs to get the collective consciousness to believe it is a $60k vehicle. Sure, people will add options that push that up - but you don't bother to go to the web site to design your vehicle if you think you can never afford it.

The thing they should do is offer a “loaded” launch model to first round reservation holders (meaning all reservation holder get the option 1 time or you wait for a second or third round for something more specific you want like a color) that would be very well optioned but offered at a price as close as possible to the promised price, but who knows what the real approach will be when time comes

That's what Toyota did with the new Land Cruiser "First Edition". It didn't go well since the demand at that price point simply wasn't there and those launch models were still sitting on lots when the cheaper models arrived. $70k-80k for a gussied up 4Runner didn't fly, especially since the more desirable features were saved for the GX version. I don't know if this business model works now that we're past post-pandemic supply/demand issues. Promising a price point, then not offering the vehicle at that price point turns a lot of people off to a brand (ahem, Tesla). Just build the vehicles the early deposit holders want. Some will want the loaded versions while many will not, but let that choice be the customer's, not Scout's.
