Launch Edition

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Tesla tried to do "don't resell it within a year" thing with the Cybertruck, during that brief moment when used ones were worth a lot.

AFAIK, it... might have worked... some? But we still saw it happening.

But yeah, if we got $15000 off because of an early reservation + $5000 off because of useful forum feedback (hey, while we're dreaming right??? :D), then I'm MUCH more likely to jump in early.

Although I have no plans on selling soon. I've had my jeep for almost 20 years. I'd expect to do similar for the Scout.
Any discounts will just help solidify my purchase early and I’m for that, it’s more reasonable to expect growing pains from first year production.

And no derail the conversation too much but what’s the mileage like on a 20year Jeep?

I think it would classify as "barely driven". And to be clear, I've owned it 20 years, but I bought it used in 2006 with 98k miles on it (1997 ZJ, 4.0L, 3in lift, 31's). So its almost 30 years old now.

Was my college car, but also, I was poor, and lived close to campus and walked. Then my first 4 years in my career, I cycled to work. Then I took the bus from where I live now.

Its done offroading, and 1000 mile road trips, but it wasn't a heavy use (by mileage) vehicle. Now it has sat more, as its hard to justify driving it locally when it costs 10x what my other vehicles cost to drive (my Jeep gets cost me $7 to drive to go mountain biking at my local place, where my Plug in hybrid costs $0.70 for the same trip).

Has 157k on it now IIRC.

It still gets used for the places its needed. But the Scout would replace the plug in hybrid, and the jeep together.

Here she is :).

I’m for any discount or special promo.

And same. My Jeep will be 13 next month. I expect to keep my Scout for a long time.

I'm going for an "everything you need, nothing you don't approach with this car which means no loaded up Launch Edition and I'll be closer to the lower end of the price range. If they go the Launch Edition route and push the rest of us to the back of the line then I'm probably looking at a 2029 delivery window which makes me sad.

IDEA: Early/ranked forum members get a heavy discount on Launch package as a thank you for loyalty. Scout writes it off as marketing expense because they know we're the most outspoken on the brand here and in other forums/media. Everybody is happy.
That or back to the idea where there is a forum launch package that somebody else had suggested that gives everyone a mid level upgrade then allows for 6-10 typically large accessories like winches, racks, tire carrier that become al a cart then really push the idea that no two scouts are the same. Then for later arrival components like steel bumpers, etc… provide some Scout bucks that you can apply to have added later on at like a 15% discount. Then we get them out on the streets, talk them up and help drive sales. Maybe present 3 color options and hate to say it because some will argue but make them all leather (it is likely most popular for the initial wave of scouts anyway) and use that as the start up spool for building the production line. Or grade it like long term members get ‘X’ amount of features, next group and so on by 9 month increments or something similar. Would certainly allow a slow build up but allow them to test the accessories shop, etc…. Then offer group deliveries at the plant.

Do we think people will try and flip Scouts like they try to flip other cars when they are scarce.
It’s entirely possible, but I would imagine it will depend on the quality and the want for scouts. Well not entirely the same and somewhat disconnected when Rivian launched for about 2 to 3 years I couldn’t find a single used Rivian locally or nationally using Carmax or Carvana.

That was me! :D I called it the Scout Community Package. The Community gives input on what's included in the bundle, we get some kind of discount for our efforts (and to get some kit out in the hands of customers fast), and it becomes a bundle that regular customers can buy...but with the added legitimate panache of it being curated by real fans of the brand who inevitably show it off. Win win.

Oh I’m going to end up with a winch and a bullbar and 37s aren’t I. 😹

Ford has a Ford Points program: with each vehicle you get something like 20,000 points. Those points can be used to buy accessories or maintenance. Another option would be a Scout Founders Points program whereby early reservation holders receive enough points with the purchase of the vehicle to spend in the shop.

However, that doesn’t mitigate the potentially high starting price.

The issue will be if Scout doesn’t sell and deliver enough vehicles in the first 3-18 months, it’s going to be considered a “failure” and selling more vehicles later will become even more difficult. IMO, starting with a high-priced version is the wrong way to go. My belief is that they would be better off building the volume first, accepting that the “losses” they incur for selling lower-priced vehicles are part of the investment in their higher-trim vehicles that will come out 18 months after the successful launch. IMO, Scout need a rock-solid launch with sales numbers in their first quarter at least as high as Rivian’s best quarter.

At the very least maybe a discount for the EV credit that got killed, $7,500.

Sadly yes. Happened for at least 15 months after Broncos launched but they were open top and more lifestyle oriented. And as long as naive and greedy people have money people will overpay. I briefly thought about it with my original Bronco order because it was cool but wasn’t meaningful. The Scout has meaning to me and I didn’t commit all this time being here on the forum to get (I hope) a year one then turn around and flip it. But hey-if someone walks up and offers me $15K cash I’d have to take a moment and think about it. That’s a lot of money for an idiot to hand over. But again-no I tent on my end.

The trick and logic is the two extreme ends. Not fair to others like me who commit all this time and plan a delivery in the ‘27-‘28 time frame then have to wait an extra year to get a nicer vehicle. I certainly am not in a spot where I have to buy a new vehicle but it would be the disappointment. Offering a stripped base unit and a fairly loaded launch edition would help satisfy more folks. Then both could get accessories added aftermarket or hold until the Scout experience/service centers open or pay small fee for the mobile techs to deliver bumpers, etc.. and install on site to thank you for being an early adopter

If my Scout is PBY there’s no way I could sell it. I just couldn’t do it.
