There’s been a lot of discussion about that. Pretty universal people want something other than a fob. If you search the word fob, there’s pages and pages of posts on that particular topic. What are the chances we can our phones to act as the key fob?
Personally I hate carrying anything other than wallet and phone in my pockets.
I've had keys for so long, it feels strange when I don't have them in my pocket. Even when I'm on vacation & my car is sitting in an airport parking lot, I still walk around with my keys in my pocket. There’s been a lot of discussion about that. Personally I would like a fob and to be able to use my Apple Watch.
We don’t know for sure yet what our options are going to be. More faith and patience is all we can do right now.
Same, but I have a lanyard around my neck with my keys. If I go somewhere for the day I throw them in my bag, but short trips they are around my neck. If ladies clothes had pockets like men’s did I would put them in my pockets. Half the time I don’t have any pockets!I've had keys for so long, it feels strange when I don't have them in my pocket. There is a lot of talk about this if you do a keyword search with the search button but nothing confirmed by SM.What are the chances we can our phones to act as the key fob?

I see it the opposite. A key or fob is pretty much fail safe. A phone or watch requires you to have that and requires connection so not as guaranteed. Many other manufacturers already do it that way so I think it is common practice for people’s mindsetsThere definitely should be a Fob but it should be an option, I feel the same about the start/stop button, some people want it some don’t I’d personally like to just approach my vehicle with my watch, get in, buckle up, press the brake, shift into gear and go, no extra steps
just to be clear, I am saying that the vehicles should come with a key fob. But in terms of the connection thing, it really depends on how the manufacturers do it because some of them create a token on your phone or watch the same way that they do with your debit cards so they will always work regardless of LTE connection you just have to be close.I see it the opposite. I could be maybe ok with this.I have posted this elsewhere, but here is my $0.02.
Scout should have phone-as-key, key fobs, and RFID cards all available. Cars should come with 2 RFID cards (these are credit-card size plastic cards that are all-weather) and of course you could download the Scout app and make your phone a key. As for key fobs, I think they should create them and make them optional for people. I LOVE my Model X key fob as I can open the trunk or frunk by clicking the buttons through my front pants pocket. It is WAY faster than pulling out my phone, opening the app, and then opening the trunk or frunk. Yes, the car will unlock when you walk up to it and then you can open the trunk by pressing the handle on the car....
That being said, key fobs are not cheap and not everyone wants one. My suggestion to save costs would be to give everyone like a $500 credit to the Scout store. They could then decide if they want chargers, key fobs, whatever. Personally, I don't need a charger as I have 2 L2 NACS chargers at home already. So I could use my credit for key fobs.
I don’t know how these poor SM employees are going to make us all happy. No don’t like those cards. Too easy to lose. I want a fob I can hook to a lanyard and I’m assuming it will have an app like all the other new cars do. I also really like that video Rivian posted the other day with an app on your Apple Watch. That’s my preference.I could be maybe ok with this.
Also, as a side note to any scout engineers lurking. If we have an RFID card/key, please make it have a hole in it, so we can clip it to things/not lose it.
The "I'm going kayaking and need my keys with me" situation, where the key goes both into a zippered pocket, but ALSO clipped to a key ring clip thing. I do that when I go backpacking/etc as well. When it is mission critical to still have your keys on you, as you do NOT want to lose the keys while in whitewater... or have them fall out of your backpacking backpack when you stopped to get your headlamp out of your pack 2 days/35 miles of backcountry hiking ago.
Lol, yes, exactly this. Although what you called out is what I mentioned. Having a hole in the key can help with the losing it bit. As at least it can be put on a tether.I don’t know how these poor SM employees are going to make us all happy. No don’t like those cards. Too easy to lose. Don’t make come up there, (See search bar (TM @J Alynn ) “OldGeeksGuide standard rants”)But I feel like the start button on the wheel should be optional or at the very least bypassable
That's why I'm saying all of the above. What I described (minus the store credit thing) is what Tesla does today. If you want to go surfing or kayaking, carry the RFID card with you - it can get wet. It can also be a backup key in case your phone battery is dead or whatever - you just keep it with your credit/debit card(s). For other times, use the fob or carry your phone. FWIW I lump smartwatches into phone because as far as the car is concerned it's a phone key. At that point it is just up to Scout or possibly 3rd party developers to have the phone app accessible on a smartwatch.I don’t know how these poor SM employees are going to make us all happy. Except that he's right. Only dinosaurs have start/stop buttons. Even GM woke up to reality
Is a start/stop button necessary for a Harvester model?Except that he's right. Only dinosaurs have start/stop buttons. Even GM woke up to reality![]()
