What one thing would you like to see changed from concept to production?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Honestly, more afraid of changes - too often concepts and production are barely recognizable.
Everyone has to make their own calculation as to what level of “risk” they want to take in these situations.

I saw the concepts in person at Nats in June. I spoke with SM staff. I specifically asked how close the concepts will be to production. I was told they are 85% of what they will be. Jamie stated one change was adding a rear wiper to the Traveler.

I know I’m a broken record on here but I have faith in SM. Everytime they have released something it has more than met my expectations. I’m choosing to have patience.

And one other thing, and this is just me, when people see them, they love them. I saw people at Nats so excited and just in awe of the concepts. I just can’t believe they would say well yep people love them let’s do a 180 and make it unrecognizable.

Again good luck to you and I hope you find what you are looking for.

The EVs without a start/stop button would likely shut off when the seat pressure sensor disengages.
I might not want the vehicle to shut off when I get off the seat or get out of the vehicle, for many reasons.
And I might not want the vehicle to shift to “ready mode” when I sit in the seat.

It’s presuming too much to assume that I want to drive if I sit in the car with the key in my purse or pocket.
This made me so curious, are there EV's that do shut "off" when the seat sensor is disengaged? During road trips I often lift up for a bit to get a little blood flow back to the derriere. Is the sensor also in the backrest? I would hate for it to shut down on a highway! I have so much to learn about EV's 😀

Same and this is why I still think a start/stop button will help many adapt faster

I’m certain there are safety protocols in place to recognize when it would be unsafe for such an action.

When I had a Prius, one of the tests I did was press the Start/Stop button while driving. The car just yelled at me and didn’t shut off. I don’t see any reason it would be different for an EV that doesn’t have a Start/Stop button.

I doubt any would do that while driving. My Tesla certainly doesn’t. If you were not moving and took the seat belt off and lifted off the seat it might put it from drive into park, I can't remember, but definitely not while driving.

I've seen the production models and they are virtually indistinguishable from the concepts. In fact, some of us think the refinements look better.

Your post just gave me fond memories of a 4-speed shifter on the floor. It really sucked when the 3rd gearing was worn out and I had to hold it in gear for 3rd which made it challenging to hold the coffee cup while steering too, but still a fond memory 🤣
hahaha this made me laugh! I love it! I find myself driving with a cup in my right hand as well! Gotta have some coffee in the AM for the commute!

Not sure if you are referring to Scout or Buzz.

My frustration is not fair. Much of my anticipation was based on guesses from outsiders rather than stated VW target goals. But that was the early data available, so that is what I had hoped for. They missed the timeline (US version had a delayed release), range (early estimates were 350 miles), and price (early estimates were $40-50k, pre covid pricing) - not what I dreamed about. It also missed some of the "magic" from the Buzz original concept. Again, not fair - concept vehicles can be made to look seamless, while real production vehicles need to have easy to mass produce (and repair) panels - which gives you gaps and visible seams. Plus concept vehicles don't have to meet various country laws (concept art had side view cameras rather than the mirrors legally required in the US).

I am simply trying to point out how interest can easily be lost. I think I was dreaming about an ID Buzz in 2018. I knew it would be a while, so we got a gap vehicle for the wait (and kept our minivan-with the intent to trade the minivan in on the Buzz). We ended up replacing the gap vehicle before the Buzz came to the US market... Now our kids are graduating-we don't even need a minivan anymore - need a dog hauler not a kid hauler.

I’m sure Jamie is referencing the Scout in his post. It’s great news!

Guessing Jamie means Scout. He’s much more in the know for SM than VW even though that was his previous life

PRODUCTION MODELS??? WHERE ARE YOU HIDING THEM @Jamie@ScoutMotors
Two of them are in my garage. I had to sign an NDA that was 16 pages long. I’d love to tell you more but the guy staying in my garage with them would impose physical harm on my body. That said-the colors are SICK!
