What one thing would you like to see changed from concept to production?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

    How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

    Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

    So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
What he is saying is that the production models have real bumpers, air bags, DOT seat belts, improved aero that wouldn’t be cheap to incorporate into the concepts, etc., etc.

The production models are virtually identical to the concepts. There are some spotting differences, but most are subtle. Production bumpers are one difference for example that most would spot, but I think they look better.

Got it, thanks for insight. Does that explain why we've not seen Traveler concept w/out spare tire carrier? Its literally a permanent attachment that can't be uninstalled?

It gets different opinions here - some want it, others want to avoid it. Maybe your photoshop guy could work something up without it? Using my thumb on laptop screen probably not an accurate representation.

Morning. Here’s a picture that someone did. I do not remember if it was one of us forum members or SM that made this picture, but it’s something.

I believe Jamie said it they are trying to make it removable in another thread.

We will show a render of what it looks like later this year. The non-tire carrier version has a different filler panel. On the concept it isn’t really removable.

"On the concept it isn’t really removable". So maybe removable on the production vehicle? :)
Jamie said this about the tire carrier the other day.

Just trying to keep the idea alive. :)

Oh if there’s a will there’s a way. I’m confident people will figure out how to remove that carrier. 😹

I’m honestly expecting a whole catalog of things, just like they have for Wranglers and Broncos, to do things that’s the manufacturer may not have.
There wont be much of an aftermarket for them for at least a few years. This is true for new models from established brands too. 3rd parties need to ensure they will get their R&D money back so they typically wait to see how many people are adopting the new platform before they release anything.

Hopefully Scout takes advantage of this period of time and has a solid selection of OEM accessories to fill that gap until the aftermarket catches up.

I just commented to my wife a couple days ago that the Bronco aftermarket is only now starting to really fill out well with options, and it’s built to be pretty modular. 5 years after launch.

I’m very curious to see how the Scout aftermarket develops. I’d bet we’ll see primarily interior accessories for the first few years (slide out frunk camp kitchen? Rear sleeping platforms? Not interior, but aero-integrated rooftop tents?) especially if the off road package mandates air suspension.

What are the odds Scout pulls a Ford Performance and offers the locking FDU as a factory aftermarket options in a few years?

OK fine I’ve rephrased my prior statement to accommodate the sensitive - but what sparked it is still unclear, at least to me -

Are concepts being revised for changes that won’t reach production? Making their representational % lower? I’d like to see more real-world clues, not reduce concepts’ real-worldness at this point.
Absolutely not. What you are seeing in our concepts are extremely close to production. Subtle differences that would not be noticeable to the average Joe.

I was really hoping Scout would do this as an option. I wrote about it in things I would like to have. In case you missed it."
  • Removable tire carrier if it happens. The filler “panel” should replace the carrier by mounting on the carrier hinge and lock in the gate normally. This way the action of opening the lift & tailgates is the same with or without carrier. Press the latch swing out the Panel and open lift & tail gate normally. If it doesn’t happen, I can do without the carrier but I will miss it. I hope Scout is listening."

@CP1@scoutmotors statement was very clear and @cyure has it right.

Hand-builds are incredibly expensive. You don't update them every time there's a minor change to the production plan unless you have to. If you don't need to see the change in physical form, you don't update the physical concept.

What we can take away from that is there may be body panel size, shape, etc changes. They won't be fundamental design cue changes. But they could mean, for example, a change in the size, location, etc of a light, or reflector, or charge ports, etc. Or the wheel wells might have been squared a bit---or rounded a bit. They may have changed the hood a bit. Who knows. It'll be different, noticable, and probably cool, but not fundamental. They didn't shrink the width by 10 inches.

Showing that they moved a side reflector a few mm would require an entirely new panel, which is too expensive to rebuild and not worth the change.
Exactly. Guess I didn't clarify my statement as well as above. SpaceEVdriver is much better at explaining. Sorry.

Youre good bro.

We try to glean information when we can and often jump to the wrong conclusions.

Thank you for your patience and I hope these hiccups dont stop you from sharing those amazing behind the scenes details and teases.

Nah, it’s not an issue with clarity. The issue is people (including myself) want to know exactly what the plan is. But:

  • The Plan (TM) isn’t final, so telling us would be an exercise in frustration for everyone;
  • There are some proprietary things you can’t share;
  • There are costs to everything. Some of those costs are in dollars, some are in time, and some are in mental energy;
    • Sharing every detail is expensive in time and mental energy, and in the case of physical concept vehicles in dollars.
The fact that Scout Motors has allowed you and @Jamie@ScoutMotors to communicate with the community is a major bonus that I don’t think everyone in the new car community can reasonably expect to have access to. You’ve built a community here beyond reasonable expectations. Sharing every internal conversation would actually damage that because it would create a constantly shifting set of expectations and eventually a loss of trust.

We don’t need to know if you’re debating mostly-square, somewhat oval, or perfectly circular reflectors. Nor if your decision about the type of reflector is still not yet made—will it be plastic, aluminum, polycarbonate, etc? We don’t need to know. We might have opinions, but if we want those opinions to shape the vehicle, we need to polish up our CVs/Resumes and go get employed by Scout Motors and get paid to have those opinions.

And yet, you all still asked us to contribute to the Suggestion Box, which is a great way of allowing us to continue the conversation without committing to implementing any of those suggestions. I suspect you’ll actually take some of those to the design team, but I’m glad you haven’t told the community which ones—that would lead to massive division and distrust at a time when you need it the least.

In summary, in my opinion (worth what you paid for it): You all are doing a great job of interacting just about perfectly with the Scout Community.

Thank you. I have a really hard time biting my tongue. The vehicle is constantly evolving. I would love to share some things with everyone.... But we can't give away all our secrets. :)

Visually what you are seeing in our concepts is 85% of what you will see in production (I believe this has been explained). But there is so much "behind the scenes" stuff going on that is going to make this vehicle stand tall to its competition.

Examples:
1) Built in light saber holder
2) Plutonium afterburner
3) Teleporting option.
4) Jetson's vehicle harmonics

You really, really should get rid of the teleporting option—that’s going to cut into your sales.

All light sabers? I need to know specifics-heading to Disney in October and want to plan my build and purchase of said light saber to fit the traveler 🤣
