After hearing some discussion on the range extender for the Terra I was disappointed to hear that with placing the range extender in the rear of the vehicle it cut the towing capacity in half.

I believe there is a real need for a hybrid electric to maintain the towing capacity for every day use.

As an avid out door enthusiast and ev enthusiast I would forfeit the frunk to house the range extender to maintain the 10,000lb towing capacity.

Being able to tow a good size camper, electeic dirt bikes in the box of the truck and utilize the range extender to power everything when boondocking would be the ultimate set up and what I would like to accomplish with the Terra ultimately replacing my diesel truck.

Welcome to the community. This is one of those faith and patience items. There are no final numbers yet and it’s a very hot topic with many, many forum members having the exact same issue as you. I can’t believe that SM isn’t trying to get that number as high as possible.

Welcome again and if you search towing capacity you will find tons of discussion on that topic.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. They are still working on it and a lot of discussions had on here. If interested just use the search feature and keyword towing-that should help you navigate to it

Thanks all. Hopefully the design
and engineering team is tracking the forums closely to consider some of these suggestions from end users.

I am a motor head but since the ev scene has come I'm fully invested in electric. The performance, the little to no maintenance cost of ownership and the economics of daily use has fully converted me. 2 evs, 5 electric mx and Enduro bikes. I just need a replacement for my diesel f350 and I am really hoping the Terra is that exact tool I need.

They do and they will respond to us when they can. A couple great follows are @Jamie@ScoutMotors and @CP1@scoutmotors. They keep us updated around here.

As I understand the most recent information out here, the location of the Harvester genset will be between the axles (just forward of the rear axle). So it will not negatively impact tongue weight and thus towing capacity. Payload will probably be not much different.

The main engineering challenge remaining is thermal management. The genset will require significantly more robust thermal management than the BEV battery alone. Scout has some very interesting patents, but we'll see what comes out as their solution.

My guess is their maximum towing capacities will be higher than advertised for the BEV (~12k) and right around advertised for the Harvester (9k-10k). That will be depending on trim, package, option, wheels, and tires.

Everything is a compromise. While my 3/4 ton diesel rides good, for a 3/4 ton - I seriously doubt it is the kind of ride most people not used to driving 3/4 ton trucks would appreciate. But it does tow extreamly well.

The first job Scout probably did is anticipate who their primary target market is - and what they expect, what they need, and what they want. Honestly, for who I suspect their target market is - heavy towing probably is not a huge consideration. Moderate towing is probably at best a want. They are ultimately going to be concerned with meeting range and ride expectations.

Dodge and Ford apparently are in the process of making 1/2 ton trucks with more of a towing focus. That is going to require a MUCH larger generator, either at the expense of battery size (and EV range) or weight ride quality, and cost. But those 2 brands already have significant market shares in the ICE truck market - and they really need a drop in replacement for those ICE trucks. Ford already figured out that the Lightning really did not manage that.
