If the harvester is generating 10KW or less, it may be efficient to route that as AC through the onboard charger and to the power-distribution system than to have it go directly to the high voltage battery as DC. This would allow the computer to route the power different places as needed without needing anything extra monitoring the DC line. Some or all of that power is going to be routed to the drive motors, the AC, and other systems before it even touches the battery. No need to "charge" the battery just to discharge it right away.My mild hybrid has an DC inverter to re-charge the battery pack from the V-6 engine with an AC generator in the 7DCT. It also has dual tq vectoring rear AC drive motors and also can be used to collect power from regen braking. I just figured Scout EREV would have an DC I.C.E. generator since the motor generator wouldn't be involved in regen braking. The inverter would send and receive power as needed (AC to drive motors, AC drive motor to collect power from regen braking, AC out to climate control for BEV/EREVs, DC to battery pack, etc...).
At least this sounds good in my head... I don't really know what I am talking about
