Modular add-ons

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Keep add on’s simple by making them modular. Each system has its place, no trim levels, complete customization at the hand of the buyer.

When you go direct to consumer and don’t have quite the same mechanic network, a modular system will help with not only customization but repairs as well. This doesn’t necessarily mean it can be utilized on major components but could help with other features and functions.

Welcome and thanks for posting your thoughts. I concur however, I think some basic trim levels should exist.

I would love if Scout just had two Trims BEV and EREV and then offer Packages to them. Both Trims will offer rear lockers, An Off Road Package will give you Front and a swaybar disconnect with 35s. Open Air package gives you the cabana and maybe a power rear window? I hope that the Bench/Console is not a Package and we can just choose that.

If I were still in California I would get the cabana. Out here in Illinois when it’s cold, rainy, snowing it’s just going to be closed and I’m afraid it would feel like I’m driving in a cave all winter. That’s my dilemma.
I've just heard so many horror stories of sunroofs and other things leaking, to want to worry about that here, where it is raining 7-9 months of the year.

But I totally get the appeal.

Glass roof I worry about breaking some (just another thing to go wrong compared to a steel roof), but luckily I don't live where its super hot, so I'm less worried about the temperature thing.

Although, I think it could also be colder, which would also be not great.

But finally, I'm thinking I'll barely be able to afford these things either way, so the steel roof seems just fine :P.

You know, I’m so used to my ClearLidz that doesn’t seal real well and in the winter if the wind is blowing in the right direction I get snow and rain in my vehicle, the Scout glass roof is gonna feel like a dream!

I’m hoping bench/console seats and roof type are not tied go any package. Those two things should be independent.
That would make me ecstatic as I want the bench seat and a solid roof, but will likely want other niceties that are usually tied to fancy seats and a glass roof.

This is why I hope they go with individual options rather than the packages. I have a Terra reserved. I want a solid roof but I also want the power rear window, so if the power rear window is tied to an "open air" package that includes the cabana or glass roof, I will not be able to get it. I know someone here that wants the an off-road appearance (so 35s and sliders) but doesn't plan to actually go off-road; they don't need the upgraded internals. So, tying all the off-road equipment together into a required package would be an unnecessary expense for them.

This is just me but I look at that window as a window that goes up and down like the other windows. Why would that cost extra? Every 4Runner trim has a roll down back window doesn’t it?
