Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I'm back from my holiday break, did I miss anything good?

Some notes:

- the IONNA chargers are open at Wawa. I want to see if I can snap a good pic where you can see both the IONNA and Tesla charging stations. As invested as I am in this community I'm not super in the weeds on charging types, I'm wondering if IONNA uses CCS which is why they decided to open in the same parking lot as NACS? Either way, pretty cool to have three ways to "fuel up" in the same spot.

- My wife's car (24 Volvo XC90) was in the shop for a few days (warranty repairs/inspection/our own logistics of getting it back) so we had a 26 (i think? the newest one) XC90 as a loaner for a few days. This model has the full touchscreen interface compared to the 24 which is kind of a hybrid on that front. Surprisingly easy to use and really responsive, but I do wish there were physical buttons. Her lease isn't up for another year so wondering what 27 will bring.

Still thinking about my Scout every day.
Ionna has both CCS1 and NACS plugs at every charger site. This is the right way to do any new public charging station.

I'll check them out tomorrow when I stop for coffee and report back :)
I have to change my statement. I think I misread Ionna’s page.

What you’ll see at IONNA

We know plugs might be confusing at first glance, so we’ve made it simple:

  • Both CCS and NACS connectors are available at every IONNA site.
  • Plenty of signage along each bay to guide you as you pull up. Our signature ‘top hats’ overhead make it even easier to spot where to plug in.
  • Color coding to guide you:
    • Blue for CCS
    • Orange for NACS

I'm curious about the strategy here (and again, I'm completely ignorant about the charging thing). I understand that NACS is being adopted universally in the US so its interesting to me that more stations would be added at a location that already has a dozen (and I've never seen more than 3 or 4 in use).

A few thoughts going through my mind on it...

  • IONNA trying to get a slice of the pie while it's still available.
  • Tesla not being open to all vehicles allows IONNA to slide in and bridge the gap.
  • CCS isn't going to just disappear, so vehicles equipped with that will still need somewhere to charge.

I think it's probably a mixture of all of them, and if they can get a good user experience for the same or lower price then people will use that instead. I mainly use Tesla superchargers (I own a Tesla) since I can just plug in and start charging without doing anything, but if Ionna can get the same plug and charge ability and price is similar then I might look at them if a station is around when I'm taking a road trip. It could also be if certain manufacturers give a credit towards a specific charging brand, or maybe in the future (or even today for all I know) they will be tied to grocery store rewards like gas is, where you can get a $0.10 discount for charging like you do with gas rewards.

I also think it's the same as gas stations, just up the road from me is a Turkey Hill and a Sunoco gas station next to each other and the price is generally the same at both so gas stations do the same as EV chargers in this scenario.

There’s a myth that there are more NACS plugs out there than CCS1. This is based on the fact that T-branded plugs are the largest single brand. But the combined number of CCS1 plugs out there is far, far greater than the number of T plugs.

And on the flip side, there are more CCS1 vehicles out there than there are NACS. This is changing as new vehicles by many manufacturers are being built with NACS.

In addition, most plugs by T are not compatible with non-T vehicles. All of the V2 superchargers are incompatible. Many of the V3 superchargers are incompatible. Many of the L2 destination chargers are incompatible.

What this all means is that CCS1 is going to continue to be important for decades. Even if all of new vehicles switched tomorrow.

There are 85,425 CCS1 (DCFC) & J1772 (Level 2) public charging stations with 220,228 ports in the US and Canada, according to the alternative fuels public database.

There are 9,695 NACS (AC and DC) public charging stations with 55,119 ports in the US and Canada, and not all of those are compatible with all EVs.

In summary: it doesn’t matter what port your new EV has, you’ll need an adapter for the next several decades.

I love your post and I think it helps highlight how confusing charging is as someone from the outside looking in, and I'm on the curious/want to learn side of the outside, I can't imagine how overwhelmed someone else would be.

Yeah. There are even times when it’s frustrating for someone who has done hundreds of DCFC sessions.

Personally, I think new cars should just be built with both plugs until enough of the old chargers fail and the remaining vast majority of chargers have whatever plug has survived. Once you get past the plug, the communications are the same (barring old V2 and incompatible V3 superchargers) so there’s no reason not to have both plugs in the vehicle. The cost wouldn’t be much more than the cost of an adapter. Maybe 50% to 150%. If I were shopping for a new vehicle, I’d pay $300-$500 more for a dual plug option.

In fact, one of the things I would like to do once my Lightning is out of warranty is to add a NACS plug to the front right passenger fender. This will get rid of the need for an adapter and it will enable me to use any port at a brand-T charging station, even if there are vehicles on both sides of that port.

Ugh paywall.

Hello- I just wanted to come in here and thank you for the shout out. I truly love my job and this community has been essential in the decisions the CMF team makes. I don't often comment on here but please know that I am regularly in here reading the forum members comments, specially regarding Colors and Materials. So keep them coming!

Please know that I take into account the feedback from you all in my daily decisions trying to make it worthy of the Scout name and this community, so your support and acknowledgement for our work means a lot!

Aileen! Oh I’m so glad you read my post. I so wanted to make sure you and the team get your flowers! Your work is truly a reflection of how much you care about your job and this community.

What you all have done with the concepts so far is just stunning. Having seen them in person twice I can truly say pictures don’t do them justice. There are so many details. I know they are body on frame, lockers, etc, which great but for me it starts with the aesthetics and you are nailing it every time.

So good to know you and the team are on here reading our posts.

I can’t wait to see what you all have in store for us next and if you need any inspiration, I took the pictures my husband took at Nats and had Gemini make the Traveler PBY (pale butter yellow). It’s beautiful in this color, if I do say so myself.

Hey guys, it’s Aileen!!!

Also reminding myself that over a 5 year period I'd expect to spend about $15k on gas assuming prices stayed the same (lol), so I'm happy to flex a bit on the upfront of cost on the Scout since I know I'll be making it back by not having to fill up anymore.
Assuming our state legislators don’t triple fees for EV but even so it still saves money. Is it a Wawa near you or just the Philly area? Are they doing a bunch?

Looking at their map this looks like its the only one in our area at this point. I don't know if others are going online (most Wawas around here have added Tesla chargers within the past ~year, but Wawas also multiply like rabbits in the philly burbs so who knows whats planned for the new stores), but I did find this:

Thanks for joining us and taking the time to post—we really appreciate it. You and the SM team have absolutely nailed the exterior colors so far. The modern touch with Tahitian Red during the Traveler reveal was especially well done and really hit home. I may be biased, but it feels like a great modern interpretation of what I currently have on my ’79 Scout II.

It’s great to see how closely you stay connected to the community and that our feedback—especially around Colors and Materials is truly being considered. The passion from the CMF team really shows, and we’re excited to see what’s next!

Just worth pointing out you got a  from Aileen.

With that said, @aileen.barraza, would love to hear your thoughts on what's been posted in the 70+ pages of the Scout Color Poll thread. IMO Cyure's Pale Butter Yellow is a slam dunk, would love to know if there are any other colors posted that have caught your attention?

Official welcome to our department! I think many of us think of ourselves as ambassadors and an extension of the SM family and knowing you took the time to tell us you watch from the dark it means a lot. At least to me and surely many others. It is an amazing conceptual approach as a company to crowd source and learn first hand from the fans and diehard Scout fans. That said can I request the clay leather and a dark blue denim with off white stitching. Looking forward to seeing that in the next redo 😀. And dark navy blue plaid floor mats. Preferably with the perfect shade of blue (which I don’t know what that is until I see it-but that’s the fun and joy of designing is understanding what our brains desire). Or the moist banana color since @cyure stole my color and claimed it for herself 🤣. Or a great Smokey lavender exterior but then I’ll need an amazing off white and aubergine interior with brushed bronze metal with some dark natural oil finished walnut or a dark stained compressed cork accent. Just sayin’ 😀

I don’t think Aileen realizes the Pandoras Box that has opened up. 😹Now I totally want to see Smokey lavender. It’s no PBY but I’m intrigued!
