Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

I do NOT want my Scout to drive itself.

Part of owning a hands-on vehicle would be the satisfaction of tactile power over your destiny while enjoying the ride.

If I wanted a robo-car then I could buy a future Rivian.

Yes I would like the capability because the technology exists, at the very least adaptive cruise control and lane centering as standard.
Full self drive could be a paid option but either system should always allow for manual control with safety features like emergency braking, etc

If the Scout has a self-driving feature AND I don't have to pay for it, sure. Otherwise, absolutely not! Too many people rely on safety warnings and don't actually check as it is without having another 'self-driving' to encourage those that would rather rely on technology that can't detect everything accurately and then say it wasn't their fault that they didn't check.

I've factory ordered 3 cars and got them pretty much exactly as I ordered them, right down to the tires I wanted in the case of a 2019 Ranger Lariat. The Lartiat package had a couple things I didn't care about, but for the most parteverything I wanted

I would like to see all the scouts have the ability to have self driving, but let the driver buy it afterwards. Like how Rivian does the performance upgrades.
Rivian's Driver Assist (called Driver +) is not an add-on or performance upgrade:

Driver+ features are standard on every Rivian vehicle.
Some may be introduced through over-the-air software updates following start of production, including Lane Change Assist and Trailer Assist. Driver+ is designed to support drivers and does not replace their attention, judgment, and need to control the vehicle.

Driving Assist: Help with the manual driving tasks when you want it.

  • Highway Assist: Automatic steering, braking and acceleration on select highways while engaged.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control: Set your speed and automatically accelerate or brake, adjusting speed to keep an appropriate distance from vehicles in front of you.
  • Lane Change Assist: Assisted lane changes on the highway.
Active Safety Assist: Collision warning, alerts and preventative action.

Lane Safety

  • Lane Keep Assist: Helps steer you back into your lane if you unintentionally drift close to or over a lane marker without a turn signal.
  • Lane Departure Warning: Warns you if you drift too close or cross lane markers without a turn signal on.
  • Blind Spot Warning: Detects vehicles in your blind spots and warns you if you indicate with your turn signal that you are going to move into the occupied lane.
Light Safety

  • Automatic High Beams: Automatically switches the headlights from high to low beams when a vehicle is detected ahead.
Parking and reverse

  • Rear Cross-Traffic Warning: Alerts you to traffic approaching from the side when backing up.
  • Park Assist: A 360° detection system designed to help sense and alert you to objects.
  • Trailer Assist: Helps with reverse maneuvers while you have a trailer attached.
Collision Mitigation

  • Forward Collision Warning: Warns you of potential collisions with people and cars ahead.
  • Automatic Emergency Braking: Applies the brakes to help mitigate or prevent a collision.
  • Dynamic Brake Support: Supports your braking to help mitigate or prevent a collision.

I was talking about this my guy. Because not everyone wants ADAS

I'd support https://comma.ai/openpilot , and let them focus on the essentials. Embrace the community, keep the ethos of user replaceable parts alive.
Welcome to the forum!

We have discussed Comma once before, and we have seem to all agree that because there is no protection in case something is to go wrong. You can us the search tool to find where it was discussed.
