Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I had to promise my wife that this Scout would be a *very* long-term vehicle (only way I could get her to agree to the expected price). I don't think it will be a problem since I have regretted selling my previous Scout for 20 years now...

But when they come out with a smaller/thinner 2-door Scout... (I never said it would be my *only* Scout!)

:)
I’m hoping for that smaller open top lifestyle Scout to roll out about 5 years later so my wife loves the traveler so much by then she will want to get the new smaller Scout. Same boat-different lake-so to speak

I only "grew out of it" because manufacturers stopped producing cars that I liked better than my current ones. :ROFLMAO:

Thankfully, my wife accepted that I literally bought vehicles more often than she bought shoes before we were even married, so that helps. The only real rule now is that a vehicle can't show up without her knowing about it. That did NOT go well...
I’m making my wife read all theses posts tonight so she knows I’m not the only one with a vehicle problem 🤣

Yes, I had a very early reservation - they honored my initial pricing.
But Rivian didn't screw up entirely on their own, the intentions were good.
Then the world got screwed-up with a pandemic.
Rivian had no choice, but to either go underwater or try to adjust their pricing upward.
They were damned if they did and damned if they didn't, but more damned if their first play with no customers was to leave them feeling shitty.
They weighed their options, re-negged on the price adjustment, and made a lot of us early reservation holders that had been waiting for years very happy. They really had no choice but to take an initial hit for the longterm betterment of the business as a hold. Did it delay their first gross profit per vehicle sold? I'm sure it did, but it was the right thing to do.
Definitely agreed, they had bad timing (not their fault) for both that initial pricing and start of production with the pandemic. I'm sure Scout's estimated pricing would go out the window too if everything suddenly jumped 30%-50%.

We should start a Scout online counseling group for all of our spouses and loved ones that endure our non-stop Scout talk. My poor daughter wants a Scout but she’s sick of hearing me talk about them. That said-she texted last week with pics of the R3 and now she is really liking the look of that. So we could end up being a Scout/Rivian mixed family.
My son really likes the R3X. Apparently that one is going to be built at the Georgia plant.

I'm really liking it too. I'm hoping Rivian opens their eyes and puts in some switches. With Scout pretty much paying for the button integration/software design, it'd be a no-brainer to me, especially with the general population as a whole hating the no-button ethos.

Don't hold your breath. That ethos is part of their playbook same as any other brand having certain values. Your best bet is waiting until Scout releases an R2 competitor then opting for the cool version of that.

Same, same, and same. I love my Rivian too, but I very easily chase shiny objects so after a year and half ownership I'm eyeballing other vehicles lol! I am also not ashamed to say that even as excited as I am to get my Scout the moment I hear of a second Gen or new model I will almost undoubtedly be one of the first to reserve. FOMO...got a hold on me for sure, and my poor wife is eternally hopeful that I will grow out of it. Not bloody likely 😅
If I took that description you just wrote and had my wife read it, she would tell you you're describing me. I will also trade out of the Scout into the Gen 2 whenever they come out. Makes me feel a little bad because I'll have (hopefully) one of the first, but I'm sure I'll get over it. :ROFLMAO:

Yeah I could see R3's getting manual AC vents but I think buttons is a very big stretch.
I don't for the reason of manufacturing simplicity and those vents are pretty small as-is meaning sticking a handle and manual lever mechanism on there would block a lot of airflow and you'd have limited movement. Also I just don't see enough people complaining about those things to matter to Rivian...and for those people (like me) who do care, there's Scout and others.

I feel the same way, I can count on one hand how many times I've adjuster my events on my Rivian in a year and a half. I was just thinking R3 might get them for cost saving.

I plan on dumping the beetle if a gen 2 or smaller Scout happens with a very open-able top. Then I can hold onto my launch and have that. My wife doesn’t realize the beetle convertible was selected as a short term fun car only to be used in the future to trade on another Scout 🤣. OR perhaps she does as many of us seem to have mental car problems here on the forum

She sounds like a smart lady. I bet she is fully aware of your shenanigans. 😹

That's odd. When I did that to my wife she was thrilled. Did you forget to bring home her own copy of the new car when you did that? 😁
