Rechargeable Key Fob

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I was thinking the other day when I I had to recharge my Apple TV remote, why couldn’t we have a rechargeable key fob? If we were out and about and the key was low just plug it into the car. No need to get a new battery. Just plug in the USB cable and recharge.
Even better (for many reasons, not the least of which is water and sand/dirt safety) is if it were wirelessly (Qi) rechargeable. Drop it on the charging pad while driving, pick it up off of it once you’re at your destination.

I’m trying to remember the last time I replaced a battery on a car key-fob. I’m not saying a rechargeable fob is a bad idea, but I’m not sure it’s a huge need.
I’ve replaced the battery in the fobs for at least my last four vehicles. I’m thinking most at or near the 4 year mark…

I could go 4-6 years on my old key fobs for the vehicles I had back +15 years ago. It has really reduced down to +/-3 years replacing my fob CR2032 batteries on my 2018 and 2019 vehicles (if one battery is weak, replace both fob batteries). Way more electronics on my newer vehicles with keyless entry, remote start, welcome lights, alarms, fob roll down windows, etc... I even had to tell the wife to stop leaving her purse with the fob in the car in the garage because the constant communication was running down the fob faster. Then, I needed to move the key holder further away from the garage because of the same reason of constant communication being too close and running down the fob batteries faster.

I like the rechargeable fob option; but, would be fine with regular battery option. Hopefully, Scout will:
- make it easy to replace the regular battery or rechargeable battery
- the fob is sealed and water proof/water resistant to help with dust, dirt, lint, or moisture corrosion down the road
- we have an option of a physical key built into the fob to open the door if we have issues with Scout or fob
- we can start the Scout if fob battery is low/dead (I can hold my fob next to the start button in my Acura if the fob is dead)
- we have a smartphone app as a back-up to open the door, open frunk/hatch, remote start for A/C or heat, and start the Scout

Coming from years of owning Acuras I agree with all of these and hope SM also includes some form of valet feature be it through key in fob or a password setting or something simple and quick
