AI In Scouts 2027

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Now we know that AI is becoming a major major part of our world. Unfortunately, too fast and too invasive in my opinion. However, this new law of adding AI in cars to detect if a driver is coherent enough to drive or not seems like a total invasion on our privacy. Now I am not one to advocate for drunk driving or driving under ANY influence. Especially after having lost a couple close friends because of it. With that said though I don't think this is something that is alright and unfortunately because of the production dates of the new Scouts I think they are going to have to incorporate this in some way shape or form too? No?

Scary to think about. AI watching you every time you get in your car? Yikes

I keep seeing this and wasn’t sure if it was real and if it was wasn’t sure if it was a law yet.

@Jamie@ScoutMotors any light you can shed on this?

I really don’t want Big Brother in my Scout.

My biggest concern about stuff like this is that it can decide a baseline-for-this-person thing like nystagmus (something I have at baseline) and decide GO HOME YOU’RE DRUNK. There are also people who just naturally produce alcohol in their bellies. I’m more irritated by the number of times I pass cars that reek of weed on the road.

If this was data that was collected and remained in whatever data collecting unit was inside of the car and was only retrieved and used against you as court evidence in the event that you were charged with a crime because you caused an accident or someone reported you for swerving or being a menace on the road (more or less what happens with drunk driving), mazel tov.

If this is feeding live data to the police, they have enough to do to go chasing down the amount of false positives that it sounds like this gives right now and it sounds like a civil liberties nightmare, as it’s been noted, and a decent attorney will likely be able to get this evidence thrown out as unreliable.

With VW reporting to LexisNexis and Rivian collecting and sharing all data, I expect Scout to be doing the same, so Big Brother will be tracking your every move, speeding event, hard braking/acceleration events, etc. Much of this is shared with insurance companies as well. I intend to disable communications in my Scout like I have other vehicles, only turning it on as needed for updates. There are no features that I value that I'd be losing in doing so.

Nice FUD.

Those "insurance features" are opt-in features that require an owner's consent, should data be obtained through telematics.

No insurance company is randomly raising drivers rates or lowering their safe driving score b/c of hard braking/ acceleration events WITHOUT SOMEONE OPTING INTO A PROGRAM! If you accidentally agree to share data that can be used against you, that is on you. 🥱

Many manufacturers have it in the purchase documents that most people do not read. I agree though, and personally opt out of everything when possible. I still don't trust the manufacturers to not have misplaced my opt-out request or to not have entered my purchase information correctly. It's happened on two out of the last three new vehicle purchases I've made (Subaru and GM). I suspect the manufacturers incentivize dealers for signing people into these programs, so "errors" get made. Definitely an argument for DTC sales. So, even if you didn't opt-in, don't think your information isn't being collected, legally or otherwise.

Look, I totally get not wanting to be watched by "the man" or participate in any of the the shenanigans that come with it. But the fact of the matter is if you own any type of GPS guidance system, that's all they need. This seemingly forgotten about technology can give an exact location within a few meters anywhere in the world. The eye tracking tech, speed monitoring, or whatever else AI they can introduce into new vehicles, IMO pales in comparison to the capabilities of GPS in the wrong hands.

I hate those diving data collectors by insurance companies. To be honest, I follow the rules, don't speed, and obey the laws. However, as we all do, that's probably 90%true. They would drop me like a rock if they saw the other 10%. No joke, coming from transplanted a New Yorker. Not sure how I feel about this. Thoughts?

Nothing to report on our end. Obviously if it is a federal requirement, we will have to comply. Let's see how this all shakes out first.

Wait, wut? GPS is a one-way technology. There is nothing in a GPS guidance system that "reports" your location. Now, other systems in the vehicle may report your GPS location but the GPS itself cannot do so.

The key difference with this new law is that government workers will be able to disable your vehicle remotely at any time. That is way, WAY different than knowing where you are based on your phone. Further, we KNOW that this will be abused as we already have abuse with surveillance devices like Flock cameras and Ring doorbells.

In addition to remote kill, they want to mandate devices/tech that can prevent you from driving your vehicle. This is also way over the line from location tracking, although we could use some regulation on that front. But no politicians want to touch it. Ever since they rolled out the Patriot Act every person in the government has been cheering every renewal and ratcheting of its provisions.

I second that. The fact they are mandating the "kill switch" based on the AI's interpretation of your attentiveness is absurd. What if you get in the car crying from hearing bad news....boom car shuts off cause you are "unfit" to drive. Or what about having a conversation and laughing while on a road trip.....boom kill switch activated cause you aren't "attentive" enough. Although those are 2 extremes you get the drift. AI should not be allowed to tell me if I am able to drive "my" car or not. Might as well walk everywhere. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Yeah-agree, total BS on this. I don’t trust AI to begin with. Can’t wait to see what problems and false arrests come with that nonsense

At the reveal SM stated they weren’t in this for collecting data. Hope the majority of that statement is true

Wait until government officials get screwed over by it then it will suddenly be addressed for a BS reason or their’s will conveniently be disabled. And what happens when it becomes a political tool to screw your rivals and haters-not that that would ever happen!
