I was going to ask about that. My car caught on fire when I was 18. My grandpa was a fireman and he always made sure we had fire extinguishers in the car. I put the fire out before the fire engine got there. They were quite shocked when they asked who put the fire out and my little 18 year old self told them, me.

Now is it before you don’t want it getting hot or for accessibility reasons. I really like the rollbars in the back of the jeep. I have Velcro straps that attach my fire extinguisher and first aid kit to them so they don’t roll around. I would like something like that in the back of the Traveler if I need to keep those items back there.

I keep one in the bed and one in the cab. But not in the frunk. For access reasons.

A fire extinguisher isn't likely to put out a major car fire, but it can put out other kinds of fires. I've used it to suppress small camp fires, rv fires, etc.

Of the manifold. The car vibrated so much it unscrewed and gas went all over the top of the manifold and caught fire. The hood paint bubbled, it burned the wiring harness to the fire wall and singed the top of the manifold before I managed to put it out. I saved my car. I was able to get it fixed and it didn’t cost too much.

My partner experienced something similar.

Her Galaxie 500 carb flooded and when she finally got it started, it backfired and spread gasoline and flames all over the air filter. She walked into the grocery store, calmly asked for a fire extinguisher, and put out the fire, pried the melted air filter off the carburetor, and drove it home.

With VW shifting more towards hybrid than BEV, and being short on cash, I'd be worried if my Scout reservation was BEV. I'm sure there are conversations on-going behind the scenes about total addressable market.

My unpopular speculation is best case for BEV production is post-2028 election - say 2029 for MY30.

Meanwhile EREV got a later start, figure best case moving from late-2027 for MY28 to 2028 for MY29.

No evidence, just a gut feeling.

Honestly I do not think those are the craziest pushes. I am more thinking that there will be LRIP at the very end of 2027 for EREV with a real production run starting in 2028, with BEV following with a LRIP at the middle of 2028 and full production running in 2029

Honestly, I see posts here and there from people who have been through this before and they all seem to say the same thing. This process requires patience. It is what it is. I’m enjoying myself here and making friends along the way. I have never been involved in anything like this I’m looking forward to when I have my Scout being able to look back and say yeah that was a fun ride to get here.

I don’t think $500 should move you to front but after a grace period it should slide you forward as others don’t pay a fee with assumption they are waiting to order. But I get your point and non refundable certainly brings in cash flow

When I say "front" I just mean "ahead of those who don't put down the deposit" - I think we're on the same page

Just looking at this in two scenarios:

Everyday- the stuff I usually haul around; kids sports stuff, various other nonsense in containers or boxes, groceries.

Long trips depending on how we pack the car one storage space will be dedicated to the "quick access" stuff- things we may need to grab when we make a pit stop without everything falling out all over the place.

Also stinky sports stuff as previously mentioned. Depending on how much room is in the back that's prime Dog Zone.

Thanks for the responses on the frunk. Looks like it would be pretty handy for emergency things, sports gear, groceries, etc. Also not having to swing out the spare tire just to access little things sitting in the trunk will be convenient. Ok, bring on the frunk lol.
