This sounds not ideal. Don’t give people something and then take it away and make it subscription only.

Tesla cuts standard Autopilot, paywalls basic safety feature behind FSD subscription
Tesla has officially removed Basic Autopilot as a standard feature for new Model 3 and Model Y orders in North America.electrek.co
I'm sure Musk's comp plan being tied to achieving 10M+ FSD subscriptions has nothing to do with this. This sounds not ideal. Don’t give people something and then take it away and make it subscription only.

Thanks for the correction. I still wouldn’t like it if a company did that when I was purchasing a vehicle. The article says it applies to "new Model 3 and Model Y orders." So they are not taking it away from people that already have a Tesla. They are just not offering it (auto-steer) as a standard feature on new cars now.
That said, making auto-steer a subscription option is a really terrible decision, IMHO. I can see full self-driving (FSD) as a subscription, but auto-steer? My Ioniq 5 has that standard. Tesla is going to get a lot of blow-back from this.

It’s even on my sons $23,000 Hyundai Venue. That seems like something that should just be standard these days.Absolutely they will. And for good reason.
Lane centering is more or less table stakes these days. You get free lane keep assist on the base model $26k Hyundai Elantra these days. And I have it on my 4 model year old Tucson PHEV.
This 100% has to be the reason.
And is another reason that people are going to be up in arms about this.
The only thing making it less bad, is they aren't removing it from current vehicles., as I am sure they knew this would cause an uprising.
I wonder if this will cause Tesla sales to drop even further?
By default, lowering your value prop keeping all other variables the same, especially on an ageing product line, should result in a drop in sales. The only way they come out ahead is if everyone else starts doing the same thing...think American Airlines being the first to charge baggage fees now everybody does it.This 100% has to be the reason.

I did a double take on that pic as well!Best thing about this article is smack dab in the middle of it is a photo of a Scout Traveler in Pacific Mist and rear tire carrier. Has nothing to do with the article as far as I can see.
