What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Are we really thinking that the Scout will have similar mi/kWh to the Lightning? I would like to see 3.5+ in the warmer weather and 2.5-3.0 in colder weather. I'm probably dreaming with the weight, aerodynamics and tires.
No chance at that, it's shaped like a big brick. 2.5-3.0 in perfect conditions would be nice. I'm expecting it to be fairly close to the Lightning in terms of efficency, hopefully a little better, but nothing near those figures.

Yeah, I know. I have gotten pleasantly accustomed to those efficiency numbers in the BMW iX. Way better aerodynamics.

If Scout offered an efficiency package that mechanically disengages the rear motor from the differential and shuts off the rear motor, they could probably achieve or surpass EV9 efficiencies. But the complexity of the system required to do that might reduce off-road reliability. I'm not sure.
Yes, I had assumed that there would be a FWD-only / ECO motor mode with the Scout to disengage the rear motor, but I suppose that is all TBD still.

I use ECO Mode in my R1T all the time on long-straight HWY runs to disengage the rear 2 motors, and there is clearly an efficiency gain of course. The new Gen2 Rivians take this a step further, and the gearing is intentionally different between front and rear motors to optimize efficiency when running only the FWD motors and to help optimize and achieve greater torque numbers for different driving conditions.

I don't even get 3.5 mi/kWh at 65mph on the highway in my Ioniq 5. There is no way that the Scouts will have that sort of efficiency.

I don’t either. I’m expecting 2 miles/kWh with the Terra. (Though I’d be THRILLED with numbers approaching these figures.
I got my current BMW iX in August. I have used efficient mode 83% of the time for a total of 6323 miles. My average consumption is 3.2 mi/kwh. I utilize one pedal driving, and navigation to almost every destination. But, I use the HVAC, radio, massage seats etc freely without trying to conserve energy that way. I know the BMW is way more aerodynamic, but it is AWD, has 8.7" of ground clearance and weighs around 5692 lbs. I am sure the Scout will weigh over 6000lbs and have higher ground clearance. I just hope the models with air suspension will adjust down for aerodynamics at highway speed. Maybe we can get high 2s....maybe.

So you have to pay through the app, you don’t just swipe a credit card?
Depends on the network.

The brand-T network only works with an app at all the stations I've seen.

I am an at EVGo and tried using the app because I've used in it the past. But I forgot to update my payment method so ended up having to use a card.

I wish there was someway to implement a prepaid card in the vehicle itself that you can load as needed and it just pays from that during the handshake process to cut back on apps, and barely functioning screens
Several charging networks allow that with Ford. You just plug in and the charge starts. But you still also have to keep the payment method up-to-date with Ford.

Chevrolet has Charge&Go but not compatible with any chargers near me. I would prefer the vehicle itself having a card built into it, you add money from a one time payment method in the vehicles app when ever you need to so once a year you put the amount you think will get the year with minimal additions, then you could see that amount on the vehicle or in app and it just charges the vehicle once plugged in and charges the amount of money at unplugging. The most annoying part of EV ownership is the amount of apps needed to just pay to charge. And many of the chargers you can pay at aren’t covered and it leads to the card readers breaking

The efficiency gains when lowering my truck appear very small... So small in fact that I worry more about tire wear / negative camber when lowering my truck for long runs.
