Rivian Tire Swap Function

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I really hope Scout uses normal OEM tires, from BFG and who ever else they are working with, the foam in tires is dumb, obviously these auto manufacturers aren’t confident in their product ride quality and road noise. So much for the EV = Quite Ride, obviously not…
I agree with your suggestion of not using foam tires, but I quibble with your inferring that the EV companies are trying to cover up bad engineering that makes them noisy. The exact opposite is true. The droning and vibration of an ICE masks a ton of road and wind noise. When the ICE is removed, people start hearing (and complaining about) the road and wind noise. There's only so much that can be done with tread design so OEMs have worked with the tire manufacturers to insert this foam into tires. I had a friend with a Model Y and one of the foam chunks came loose and the off balance tire nearly shook his teeth out until he could pull over. He replaced them with regular tires and just ignores the slightly higher road noise.

Tesla claims a 6dB noise reduction with a foam. Considering that every 3dB is a doubling of volume, that is a huge reduction. https://www.tesla.com/support/tires

Interesting find on FB. Any Rivian owners know if this is true? If so-SM should think about this
All FUD. I got my truck in 2022 and took it to my local tire shop (they can use the Tesla pucks, but I bought my own set of pucks to be prepared). I printed out the instructions on tire swap and they have done a 5 tire rotation for me each six months since I got the truck. Sounds like Bob has beef, but he should have shopped around, bc all the smart shops WANT all the new EV business, and it ain't that complicated. The Rivian SW would be a great way for Scout to handle tire swaps!

And for reference, in winter I run Nokian Hakkas (LT3's)... They are NOT EV-specific and are super quiet.

I guess you've never have heard a EV motor thats not driving on the road, but thats instead off the ground a few inches with no tires on. When you do then you may speak. On EV motor engineering. The gearing set ups that these ev motors use are in no way superior to a gas engine transmission, Transmission is the big word, because thats where most of the sound in a modern day car comes from, sound denting, and mufflers quite the engine, but transmissions you hear.

And since EVs rarely use a conventional transmission, separate from the motor, they make alot more noise. EVs are similar to a RC cars, they use a gearbox, but those gears are no where near as smooth as a gas transmission.

If ICE cars could have a single single speed transmission (like Rivian, Tesla, Ford & BMW have used) I bet the would use it. But, they can't produce the torque.

I think you have this backwards. ALL the EV's I have driven are way smoother than previous vehicles I have driven in ICE trucks with clunky the transmissions, but just my opinion (and way quieter!!!)

Imma let you whatever opinion you want. Im talking for a mechanics mind, along with the period of time i have spent in the d&d center giving feedback.

I'd be surprised if that's accurate, or maybe against the loudest tire they could find. I know when my tires needed replacing I just went to Costco and got Michelin Pilot Sport AS tires which don't have foam and although it is slightly louder it's barely noticeable.

Back to the original topic: it would absolutely be amazing if Scout incorporated the ability to update your tire size in the vehicle, on your own, as soon as you install a different set of tires. Someone with the smaller optioned tires may find in the future they want to add 35s…someone with 35s may want to step up to 37s…someone may want to run winter/summer/road trip/studded/off road tire sets at different times and swap back and forth. Those sets could be slightly or more than slightly different sizes. The ability to swap on our own would be FANTASTIC.

Are we gonna see the tire Swap function on Scout? It allows you to input your tire and it will update range and driving efficiency, really helpful information.

Tesla does the same. I would imagine Scout will
