Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Just because Scout supports a feature like this doesn't mean you need to use it. I'd love for the Scouts to have this. Again, having choices is good!

After having my misunderstanding of CarPlay Ultra being an OS corrected and reading the Motor Trend article, I ABSOLUTELY NO WAY want CarPlay Ultra used in any car I own. We have a 2 year old Honda Pilot, we use Apple Maps in CarPlay for all our navigation. Within the last 6 months we have had numerous glitches where CarPlay locks up or crashes and takes several minutes to come back. Luckily we carry an iPad Mini running the same route so whoever is not driving can look ahead at complexities, or in the failure cases take over navigation.

Bad enough to loose navigation, I sure as heck do not want the entire instrument cluster going dark! It does not matter if the root problem is Honda's or Apple's. An extra layer of communication and control is not a good idea for primary gauges. They should be running on the car, not an external phone. And i'm generally an Apple bigot, owned a Mac since September 1984.

At least if I do understand it now, CarPlay Ultra has to be an option that can be turned off at any time.

This video made it sounds like it’s working with the car manufacturer and some stuff the phone is providing and some stuff the car is pushing through to be shown on the screen at the same time. I’m not sure how I feel about it.

I am still looking at the Woodland version. The battery in the PHEV was announced as giving 50 mile EV range and larger 3500 lb towing capacity, which suit what I need now. So this may be my interum car until the Traveler Harvester comes out, or I may just switch to a Terra Harvester and keep both.

If this is anything like the Google controls in the Volvo T8 Recharge, it's too busy (for me anyway) to be flipping through screens while driving and why I canceled my Volvo order

Did I miss the announcement?
I can't find that on the page any longer so I wonder if it was real.

I just now saw on the FB 'Official Scout Motors Community' page that on May 11 Scout announced they will be using the VW 4 cylinder, non-turbo ICE made at the Mexico Plant.
Did I miss the announcement?
I can't find that on the page any longer so I wonder if it was real.

Its still up in the air but it was hinted at during a fiscal quarter investors meeting for VW Group.

Maybe the fake corrupt ScoutMotors Forum announced it. Lol

Everything else is true and obviously a concern. The pollution story just will not go away. I have a growing concern that the state legislators will screw this up.

Thats a big statement, I'm so used to seeing that I don't see it anymore. Since it's something that the media has done, and it's a bit on Scouts part for not correcting them and saying the real relationship between Scout and VW

The part about wiring harness and ECU improvements is in the electrical architecture that went into the Rivian/VWG joint venture.

The part about motor improvements is an interesting question. Does Rivian make their own motors? I don’t think anything has been said but I have the impression Scout is going to a third party for a rear axle with integrated drive unit. Getting the front drive unit from the same vendor would save them a lot of development effort so they could put their energy into other stuff unique to them.

Yes Rivian designed and makes their own motors in house now. I believe their first gen vehicles used some Bosch motors.

But Scout has said they plan for torque to be around 1,000ft-lbs and Rivian doesnt support mechanical locking diffs with their current motor designs. It will be interesting to find out what they end up going with.
