Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I don't think this is what Scout will be using at all. They will stick to what they are already developing. Car Ply Ultra is Apple's answer to Android Automotive, not to be confused with Android Auto. Regular Car Play and Android Auto display apps running on the phone using the car's screen. Android Automotive and now Car Play Ultra are full operating systems running on the car, used to handle all of the infotainment. Car makers are generally lousy at operating systems, Google has been providing a car oriented version of Android, Android Automotive, for a while and now Apple wants to play too. I don't know all the details but I suspect Google and Apple will supply some apps that the car makers can use if they wish and the car makers can write their own to run on the Google or Apple OS.

CarPlay Ultra is not an OS.

The primary difference to standard CarPlay because is that it allows layering. This means that some parts of the display are generated by the phone and other parts by the cars computer/OS. Both are integrated together.

Apple also provide a design system and assets so that the car’s OS can render certain parts (such as the speedo) with Apple’s design language and fonts. This gives some people the impression that Apple took over the car. But everything was actually designed by the car manufacturer and mostly runs on their system.

The result is very flexible for the OEM and potentially highly user customizable.

And this right here is why im never going fully electric, renewable energy.
Or just buy better inverters from trusted companies?

So being dependent on the whims of an oil monopoly is somehow better than generating your own energy? I don't get it.

What a rage-bait silly article.

Change can be scary that’s for sure. I’m slowly getting less and less afraid to go for the BEV. And that sounds crazy to say I’m scared to buy an electric car. It’s just the unknown.
Fear of the unknown is natural and human. It's how you address the fear that matters. Learning about new things, being curious, and keeping an open mind are what sets some people apart from being unthinking reactionaries stumbling around in the dark.

This article is written very odd, they keep talking about fear in America but then reference UK government officials.

IDK, these fears are always funny to fixate on when even our traditional energy grid (and other "Grids" see Operation Salt Typhoon) is incredibly easy to get access to. Members of the GRU have infilitrated the Vermont energy grid with ease and then left their malware before being discovered during the active attack, which is quite funny (an example of "Yeah we can do this and the only thing you guys will find are the crumbs").

Fun fact at if you tack on traditional tariffs, and then other monetary penalties (like anti-dumping or unfair trade practices) our Tariffs on Chinese solar panels and companies can reach over 3000%

Yep!
Frome The Ecomomic Times article:
"However, rogue communication devices not listed in product documents have been found in some Chinese solar power inverters by U.S experts who strip down equipment hooked up to grids to check for security issues, the two people said.

Over the past nine months, undocumented communication devices, including cellular radios, have also been found in some batteries from multiple Chinese suppliers, one of them said."

Using unions as an excuse to send manufacturing overseas destroyed our national security for the sake of shareholder profits.

We do the same kind of thing as well though. We spy on them, they spy on us. I could care less what my CCP Social Credit score is though.

They wont.

They are using Rivians software with their own UX on top. There was an Apple Carplay tab in one of the Cummunity UX videos a while back so youll probably see basic CarPlay in a floating window. But CarPlay Ultra is most likely not going to happen.
I always think saying won’t with two years to go is tricky because tech changes weekly and if they see an advantage and it’s easy to write it into the Rivian base architecture and the UI then theoretically they could change. I would agree it’s unlikely but I think we all need to be more cautious about saying they will or they won’t. Theoretically they could lock in a supplier tomorrow and 6 months from now that supplier could go bankrupt and then they have to find another who might need to vary something for the better or for a loss so until they are full steam ahead in pre-production models it’s best to be a little less hardliner on yes and no

Never forget the eternal wisdom of Veruca Salt: “I want it now”!
:ROFLMAO:

I would encourage you to watch the Out Of Spec video with the head of Community UX as they go through the software.

It looks like they are already pretty close to finalizing a lot of it.

No mention of CarPlay Ultra. But there was a CarPlay tab.

Scout Motors has been paying an entire team to curate the user experience.

UX quality is make or break for software defined vehicles. VW has pumped billions into investments with Rivian and in return they have access to their software.

SM also seem pretty focused on curating the user experience their way which doesn’t align with using CarPlay Ultra or tossing a skin on Rivian’s UX.

Apple has around $4.5 Trillion in cash and cash equivalents. They aren’t going bankrupt anytime soon.

It would also seem like a fiscally irresponsible move to scrap their own UX and use Apple’s or make it optional.

But sure, nothing is set in stone.

I don't mind CarPlay for running some apps off my phone. But, I really don't want Carplay taking over my cluster. CarPlay Ultra, No thank you.

I agree with you100%. I just don’t think any of us can speak definitely for SM and things could change. Wife the right price or support from Apple SM could agree. Do I think they will-no but until SM speaks I assume it could change

Did you see how they plan to implement things like audio or nav?

There’s a floating player window that can be swiped from the driver to the passenger side or minimized.

Climate controls are a small bar that pops up when you hit a physical button. Not a full screen interface.

Skip to 34:10 and you’ll see they want to give the ability to multitask throughout the user experience. Full screen 3rd party apps would seem be a conflict of that philosophy, but then again I am mentally disabled.

Im just going to go stand in my corner and eat crayons until Scout lets us see how they plan to implement CarPlay.
