Here's a map of all the DCFC chargers. I didn't have time to make a heatmap. The size of the circle indicates number of plugs.
Nice work!Because the mapping apps necessarily have to filter based on zoom level, I find they don't give a good idea of general accessibility of DCFC in a large area of interest.
So I put together some charts based on data from the US Department of Energy. I'm not sure how up-to-date or complete the data are, but I think they're reasonably representative of the accessibility of public (not necessarily free) fast chargers (DCFC) available in each state.
The first is just the raw count of public fast charger plugs per state.

The second is the ratio of public fast charger plugs per registered EV (as of September 2024). Note that CA's "large" number of DCFCs disappears when comparing with the number of registered EVs and becomes one of the states with the most "oversubscribed" DCFCs.

This chart shows the number of DCFC plugs per 1000 square km. It excludes DC because DC has such a small area, its signal swamps all the rest. More grey means lower density, more pink/purple means higher density of plugs. Note that this doesn't address the distribution of plugs. I'm working on that (I have zip code data, but haven't finished cleaning up the chart).

Great work! Pictures really are worth a thousand words! I wonder what it will look like in 2-3 years???Did up heat maps. Note that these are straight-line distances, not road-travel distances.
Here's the map of locations within 50 miles of a DCFC (again, not necessarily guaranteed to be compatible with your vehicle):

My guess is no different unless companies like Ionna and other start to expand.Great work! Pictures really are worth a thousand words! I wonder what it will look like in 2-3 years???
Ionna is the one that sets the charging stations up more so like traditional gas stations, right? My guess is no different unless companies like Ionna and other start to expand.
Yeah. And they use the building and stuff that was left from the gas station. And they make the Chargers look like a retro gas pump sorta thing.Ionna is the one that sets the charging stations up more so like traditional gas stations, right?

From what it looks like when you go to there map, it seems they have a bunch going in already! Hopefully ready when my Scout Blythewood trip comes around.Cool. Thats what I suggested long ago on this forum. Hope to see more because pulling my Scout up to charge at one just feels right!
I keep thinking about the Ionna Rechargerys. I know VW is all in on Electrify America, but Scout is "independent". I would love to see Scout's logo associated with Ionna. I think this concept will really be appealing to Scout owners. From what it looks like when you go to there map, it seems they have a bunch going in already! I was thinking about that yesterday! But I thought I would get blasted for it. Glad someone else is also thinking it. I think us future Scout owners would find it more appealing since it has that retro meets future vibe. Scout orange or a future red color on an Ionna charger would be so cool. Maybe Scout Motors can partner with them like many others have.I keep thinking about the Ionna Rechargerys. I know VW is all in on Electrify America, but Scout is "independent". That’s adorable.See that Ionna has partnered with Sheetz which is huge for the lower NE region. Love the retro design of the charging stations.

What a great photo. I think I might frame that.I've been looking for a good photo of a 1920s EV charging station so I can replicate it and hide my modern charger inside of it with analog gauges on the outside.
