What kind of tech do you expect enabled in the car or interface?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Having taught kids to drive I would like a mode where you can push one button for new driver mode and it has a speed limiter and turns on every safety feature and warning bell and light to high. Man I have seen my life flash before my eyes a few times teaching my kids.
That’s a really good idea! New driver/student driver mode seems like a cool idea. My dad would practice driving with me in… the cemetery when we’d go there to water flowers for my grandmother. He would reflexively stomp on his imaginary brake sometimes.

Well that seems like a safe place to learn. Not a lot of people to get in your way.

Oh I stomped on imaginary brakes and was known to grab the wheel on occasion. I would honestly rather get up all night with a newborn than teach a teen to drive.

Please stop yall.

My oldest is 10 and my youngest is 3. If you speak jive, “I’m cooked” is my first thought about my spawn driving.

The thought of teaching them how to drive is pretty terrifying.
I remember the days nearly 5 years ago. Other than occasional tailgating she’s been a great driver. But she’s also said her backup career is a race car driver so I think she just has a passion for it

God bless it 😂

You’re still alive though.

You might be raising the next Fangio so don’t snuff that flame out… just to be safe.

My oldest rode his dirtbike into a barbed wire fence some years ago. Little dude made me sell it after that and split the profits. I hope he remains gun shy about goosing the next thing he gets his hands on.

Part of me is leaning towards buying them each a Slate as a first car because they are dog slow and won’t get very far without a job and payment method. Lol

I can’t imagine barbed wire. Did he lay it down and slide in or upright on the fly? Either was I can see how that shook him up. I got tossed under a canoe between two rocks when I was like 11 or 12 and thought I was gonna drown -didn’t go near a boat for over 2 years until I was comfortable again and approached it totally differently so I’m gonna guess he’ll be the same. Slates would be good. Like an EV step above Flintstoning it! 😀

The little guy whiskey throttled it while he was looking at his front tire. He was upright and scooting faster than I could run to catch him. He just loves anything with wheels and couldn’t help himself.

Thankfully the throttle was limited and he wasn’t too torn up. Just a little rattled traumatized. Very grateful it not as bad as your canoe incident. We may not have ever gotten him to take a bath again after something like that 😂

I kept his Honda for several years and he refused to ride it so I let him decide if he wanted to sell it before listing it.

He will eventually come around, but I’m not rushing him!

My Ioniq 5 came with a "teen" key fob. It limits the top speed, maximum radio volume and stuff. TBH I'm not even sure where that key is right now lol My kid is becoming a teen next year but it'll be a few years still before he can drive so we have time to find that key.
If your luck is anything like mine you will find it only after you no longer need it.

If I had a teen key fob I would want to be able to customize the radio to remind them of chores every time they start the car:

“Before you drive off, did you do the dishes?”
“Did you mow the lawn?”
“Did you hug your mom / dad?”

Or like, lame parental advice:

“Make sure you know how to cook at least three good meals before leaving for college”
“Always wear clean underwear!”
“Be careful of taking out loans with high interest rates!”

My mom says that too but I don't believe in superstitions or myths.
My theory is it’s calms your mind down so you can think and then you remember where you left it.

The only thing it didn’t work on is 8 years ago I lost my wedding ring in the house. I mean we tore this place apart. Went through trash. The drains. The floor vents. Everything. It’s like it disappeared. Thankfully it was insured and I got a new one but I keep expecting it to turn up one day. I miss that ring.

Before risking that "life before your eyes" we chose a safer route. I took the old Scout up to the neighbor's fields, about 40 acres of remnant corn stalks about 3" high. There's a couple of trails through it. Nothing in hundreds of yards that needed protection from destruction. The few stalks he ran over while focusing on the gearshift were about to be turned under anyway. There's always a certain parent/child stress in this task, but we took away all the external ones. My safety switch wasn't fancy, I could just pull the hand choke and stall it out.

That was a good idea. I did the old high school parking lot first before we hit the road.

My husband tried to teach one of our sons to drive a stick shift in his Miata. My son was too busy looking at his feet and I’m not sure exactly what happened but they left with my son driving and came back with my husband driving. My son said he was never driving a stick again and my husbands face was white so that was the end of that. 😹

Did you ever get the story or was that one of those better off not knowing?

Apparently he was so focused on his feet and trying to coordinate the gas, clutch and brake that he wasn’t looking at the road and almost hit a car.

He’s totally turned into a car guy though. He likes sport sedans. His current is a Performance Blue Hyundai Elantra N, but he got the automatic with paddle shifters. No stick shifts for him yet! I told him I could teach him. I learned on them and drove them for years.
